Question Game
Posted 11/26/2006 @ 9 :53 PM

Don't you just miss Steffi Graf? Yea, she won an awful lot, but her game was the perfect combination of power, finesse, athleticism, precision, and speed. She wasn't just a boom, boom, big-babe player (thanks, Mary Carillo). She was a boom, boom, cut, cut, BOOM player. And now, seven years after her retirement, we're still waiting for another just like her.

One of the best un-Steffi...Steffi moments, comes from her 1996 Wimbledon semifinal match against Japan's Kimiko Date. In the middle of a tight, pressure-filled match, Graf was about to serve when a rather enthusiastic male fan broke the Centre Court silence screaming, "Steffi, will you marry me?". Her response was unexpectedly off-the-cuff, humorous, and tension breaking, and it made the already pro-Graf, British crowd love her even more.

Watching that video also makes you wonder if that's the first question Steffi asked Andre when he first asked her out in NYC after the 1999 U.S. Open -- although, I'm pretty sure she had a good idea about his Benjamins.

Quick note on Graf: While doing research for this clip, I came across Graf's career Grand Slam record. Starting at Roland Garros in 1987 and finishing at Roland Garros in 1990, Graf reached an astonishing 13 Grand Slam finals, winning nine of them. Anyone know if that's a record or not? Federer is almost halfway there.

ha...what a cute clip...even a non-tennis-devotee can appreciate a moment like that.

LOL!!! Nice try man....

Typical female. Andre "Sugar Daddy" Agassi can fill the void. That dog be rollin' in the dough. Smooth.

"Graf reached an astonishing 13 Grand Slam finals, winning nine of them. Anyone know if that's a record or not? Federer is almost halfway there. "

What? Am I misinterpreting this? Federer has already won 9 slams, and Steffi won 22...

also: net play, you could pass for spadea...now i'm kinda afraid of ya.

Dandy Lion -- when referring to Graf, it was the period from 1987 to 1990 where she reached 13 straight finals. Federer has reached 6 straight finals starting at the 2005 Wimbledon and continuing through this year's US Open.

you all dont make sence

this is hi/larious

wat is spadea?

I for 1 cant beleive that geek is all like "will you marry me?"

but its funny that steffi is all like "How much money do you have?"

your a geek runescape rules. that is lame.

wat ever

"your aq geek runescape rules blah blah

sweet

yes, steffi's grand slam final run back then is a record for man or woman in consecutive grand slam finals. i believe roger is the holder of the men's record finals in a row...but steffi has the most!
go steffi...
i too miss her...her wimbledon final victory over martina navratilova in '88 was the first tennis match i ever saw. i had no clue how to score, but as i watched steffi graf turn around the score by whipping forehand AND backhand winners, i became a tennis fan. it's true, she proceeded to almost only slice the ball on her backhand side, but that '88 final, she was rolling those backhands like sabatini! good times...
