"Can I get more applause, I'm a bit nervous." -- Novak Djokovic
What an opening for Novak Djokovic as he began his interview with Jay Leno last night on the Tonight Show. His impressive one-liners continued from there as he settled in to describe his "better looking", "healthier" life.
Djokovic explains that the "radiation" of the Serbs over the past 20 years is what has helped the people of his country understand all these players doing well in the "girl's sport." Speaking of girls though, Djokovic stumbled a bit when Leno brought up his "friendship" with Maria.
And if his tennis playing days end soon, he's going to start a comedy tour with Bill Cosby.
Novak is playing this fame thing up quite a bit. He better hope Federer doesn't see that clip. I don't think Federer is ready to lose any of the spotlight.

Federer is a much better player than Novak. It was quite the shocker when he went down to him in Australia.

I think he tries too hard, it looks a bit forced, both the personality he projects and the facial expressions.
He's young though... Will be interesting to see his personal development along with his tennis.

Yep, I agree. The guy tries way to hard. He may end up not doing well because of not being able to stay focused. We shall see.

He may be heading down a path that sucks you into that hollywood lifestyle. That has never been a good sign for an athlete.

Kind of arrogant but only when he has the stage. Keep it simple Novak. Get down to business.

I kind of like his style of comedy. but arrogance rating is equal to Roddick, which doesn't as with Roddick equate to Number 1 ranking.

Yeah, I much rather like Federer's "You know I'm number one and I've got a stick up my ass attitude". Grow up Fedfans, and that goes for him as well.

at least he tries to be funny and realizes he does an incredibly silly thing for buttloads of money

I love the Fed bashers out there like zastomito taking every opportunity to bad mouth Roger even if he's not even talked about in the article. "Stick up my ass attitude"? Roger is probably the classiest number 1 player to have come along in a long time. Just because he has utterly dominated the sport without being brash, cocky and unapproachable this makes him have a stick up his ass? I dont understand why people have such a hard time respecting someone who carries himself with the utmost class and doesnt smash rackets, yells and does imitations. I guess it's not enough for some people just to admire the great tennis that is displayed when Fed takes the court.

Relax FedFans, and learn to take a joke! Novak is a breath of fresh air in a sport that too often takes itself WAAAY too seriously (they hit fuzzy yellow balls and run around a court for a pile of money, after all). And tennis players have lots of free time on their hands, so a few outside interests and a little bit of Hollywood will not only help him get paid off the court (remember Andre Agassi?), but also help repopularize tennis and have a little more fun with his life. Some of this "moralizing" about distractions, "sounding forced", "trying too hard" and "going Hollywood" smack of jealousy, rather than any real concern.
Djokovic? Yah, I like this lad. He makes the game fun. He is a character and with Safin getting bored with the tennis sure we would like someone to replace him. Djokovic is a superstar and he has the game. Don't hate him because he is friendly with Shaparova!

Why whatever the topic fed fans talk abut Roger? Please do not intrude and give us some brake.

I don't understand Federer fans. I remember when Djokovic was losing against Federer there was no problem with Djokovic. But, as soon as someone is challanging his "Highness" status WOOOW! Lot of bad reaction!
People this is tennis! Noone can stay on top forever. Hate the game but don't hate the player;)

I'm a Roger fan and not exactly a fan of Djoko, but he did great on Jay Leno.
Or, I can't believe my eyes :0... Are you all right?!:-)
Anyway, I think he did just fine. Was a bit nervous at the start, sweating a bit, but then he relaxed. It's good for tennis, I guess, we need more guys and gals like this who can create the buzz beyond hardcore fans. I also watched Federer after USO on some show, he was very good also; relaxed, cracked some jokes as well. Lodra is hilarious imo, not to mention Stepanek and JJ. Things are looking good.

Djokovic is playing very well now. It will be fun to see if the show continues. This is his time to challenge Federer if that is actually possible. Federer has always stepped up to these type of challenges.
These things are fantastic for tennis, but I'm a little surprised (and pleased) that he got on the Tonight Show. Agents must have been pulling strings like mad -- those impression clips probably didn't hurt either to prove he'd be a good guest. Only tennis player I remember seeing on there is Blake. I'm sure also Agassi and/or Roddick at some point. Only non-American non-Sharapova I remember seeing on a late night show before this is Federer.
I think hes good for tennis. Sure he's cocky, but he has more personality than Federer (or Sampras). Some players take the game way too seriously. You have to be confident to win big, and he's a future number 1.

What a great interview. Novak was perfectly charming and funny. And what an honor to be a guest after the legendary TV star and comedian Bill Cosby. Even Mr Cosby was charmed by the young Serb.
It is sad to see the Federer fans crawl out of their wormholes to act so jealously towards Novak and chide the young man for being the perfect storm to their egotistical King. Their egos have been bruised so I can't blame them for being bitter. Still, it's a shame they can't be more like their hero and learn to be more gracious.
It must be tough to be a fan of Federer, not only did His Royal Highness get beat by the better player on court but he also got beat by the bigger personality off court as well.
