Forced to Pull Out
Posted 10/08/2008 @ 11 :44 AM

2008_08_10_ivanovic_blogThis is the most disappointing moment in my career.

A whole team of doctors have been helping me over the last 15 days or so but the improvement came too late. Yesterday I was able to hold my racket properly for the first time but I still have a lot of pain in my thumb. There's no way I can hit the ball.

We did everything we could but we ran out of time. I will continue to have treatment from an osteopath and hopefully I will be ready for the U.S. Open.

I would like to thank the medical team for their efforts, and for the many people who sent me messages of support. I'm sorry to all the people who were hoping to see me play at the Olympics, and represent my country there for the first time. It's so disappointing.

The best way for me to get over this disappointment is to do well in New York.

First Few Days in Beijing

2008_08_07_ivanovic2_blog_2Injury update: Ana reacted well to osteopathic treatment on Saturday. The strength has been restored in her right thumb and much of the pain has been alleviated. A decision as to her participation will be made after practice on Sunday. Her first round match against Mariya Koryttseva is scheduled to take place on Monday.

I was expecting Beijing to be very different to anything I’ve experienced before and so far that’s very true!

This is my first trip to China and I was amazed by how many people were waiting at the airport to welcome athletes. I’ve never seen so many supporters and photographers before, it was crazy!

Being in the Olympic Village is also very interesting, and so different to staying in a hotel like I do at most tournaments. I am sharing an apartment with other Serbian athletes; I travel together with other athletes to the venue in buses, and eat dinner with them in the restaurants. The Olympic Village is a busy place full of energy and excitement.

The humidity here is incredible, it's like 100%! It creates a haze that makes it hard to even see! I had practice at 10am this morning and they had to turn the lights on because it’s so foggy you can’t see across the court! It’s going to be very tough conditions during the matches.

Unfortunately my thumb is still painful and I cannot practice. I am still having laser treatment on it, but it’s very frustrating, not being able to prepare as I would like. I just hope it heals very soon.

My bags got lost again! It was a bit of a worry because I have a special Olympics outfit to wear, but luckily they arrived today. Security here is very high so there was a delay in receiving them after they had been located.

I’m looking forward to the tournament starting, and the chance to go and watch some other sports, like volleyball and diving.

Love
Ana
