The Mistletoe. . . 12/15/2008 - 6:00 PM

Mist Well, this li'l shaver is bringing our holly wreath with mistletoe. It has been "blessed," Check out the description from Getty Images:

A young boy carries away a holly wreath bought at the mistletoe and holly auction which was blessed by Druids at Tenbury Wells Market, on December 6, 2005, Tenbury Wells, England... Ancient druids believed mistletoe had magical properties because of the way it grows, never touching the ground and without taking nourishment from the earth. Tenbury Wells has been the traditional mistletoe capital for over 150 years. Druids blessed this years crop before buyers put their bids in for the festive plant. Many buyers fear it could be the last ever auction on the site as the land has been sold off for development. The tradition of kissing under the mistletoe at Christmas comes from the belief that mistletoe has fertility magic.

We're tacking this up at 6 PM in an appropriate location (a hallway, just to stay properly public!). Take advantage of it to let your fellow comment posters know how you feel about them. You ladies have to watch out for sexy engineer Sam, who has amply earned the nickname, The Mistletoe Missle. I'm taking Rosangel there as soon as I can get that danged camera off her shoulder and, guys, I'm taking first dibs on Jackie-Oh, too.

You know, when I contemplate our crew of lady posters - Jewel, Ms.Rubin (although I'm afraid of her husband; I hear he's the jealous sort - and for good reason!), Beth, Ruthie, Gauloises (in that killer corset, no less!), C1, Dwiz, aw, hail, the list is endless. . . all I can say is that a fella (or lady) can end up needing a chap-stick the size of a tube of Pringles before he's done! What the hail, though, I'm on my fourth GE, it's the holidays and, as I find myself asking at least once a day: What's the worst that can happen (apart from someone pressing charges). . .

Happy Holidays, everyone.

PS - If and when the Comments on the Virtual Holiday Party go over the 1,000 mark, move the action over here. See y'all at 9 PM or so. . .

I'm waiting ... ;)

See ya, Pete. Maybe you'll enlighten me on the virtues of Lawrence of Arabia.

Posted by beth 12/15/2008 at 06:09 PM

now here is where the party is really going to get going
I can see that gauloises has allready made her attach
but - who did she attack

and Jackie - has Missie come up for air
I cannot find her anywhere
I am a bit worried :)
she got this dress for the party - and wondered if you know who would think she looked pretty
I found myself saying " well, he has a pulse - doesn't he ? "
and then I started looking for more fabric to add on to the dress
ahem - like I said - nervous mom here :)

Posted by tina 12/15/2008 at 06:11 PM

For whom, Jackie?

Posted by Jackie 12/15/2008 at 06:12 PM

HA, beth! Er, Missie's, um, doing, well, okay ...

(I'm torn - don't know if I should be loyal to her or loyal to you. ;))

As for gauloises, her attackee was a certain elfin Argentine.

Posted by Jackie 12/15/2008 at 06:17 PM

tina, I suppose the "best" answer is Gilles ...

Posted by Jacko (Private Detective) JJ IS COMING!!!!! 12/15/2008 at 06:17 PM

Awh. . . Stan and Gilles hav left me!!!!:(
But marat is still here!!!!!!LOL
I think we'll hit the hay folks. . . and take advantage of the mistletoe!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!LOL
BYE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!LOL
*giggling, pulls marat by tie playfully upstairs*
NITE ALL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!LOL

Posted by Nancy 12/15/2008 at 06:19 PM

Geez I can't keep up with two parties when I'm already drunk, I think I'll spend fair amount of time in the bathroom, some Twibers wouldn't be exactly pleased to me. but WOOHOO drunken night at TW, me likey!

Where is my soul-mate? RACHAEL are you here?

Posted by beth 12/15/2008 at 06:20 PM

Jackie - well maybe I don't really want to know
but - maybe you and Gilles could bump them out from under the mistletoe
so you could use it ?
that would not really be making you chooose - now would it ?

ah yes , gauloises and the Elf
how could I forget ?

Posted by Jackie 12/15/2008 at 06:23 PM

beth: I like the way your mind works. But if I bump them out from under there, you know where they'll be going next ... ;)

Posted by beth 12/15/2008 at 06:29 PM

Jackie - oh sweet jesus
maybe you should just let them stand there in the hall - in plain view
and you and Gilles could sneak away :)

I am a victim of the mother's curse

you know -
"someday you are going to have a daughter just like you
and then you will understand what you have put me through "
I remember my mother making that statement somewhere during my teens

Posted by Jackie 12/15/2008 at 06:32 PM

LOL!!! Naw, beth, that's how it should be. You're an awesome mom.

And once again, I like the way your mind works.

*runs off with Gilles*

Posted by beth 12/15/2008 at 06:33 PM

it is evil and twisted
I am going to corrupt you , Jackie
be careful

Posted by Samantha Elin 12/15/2008 at 06:43 PM

One of the traditions in Sweden is to serve Jul grot which is a Christmas porridge made with one almond. By tradition the person who get the almond will have good luck for the rest of the year. Also, Swedes tend to go out and get their own trees which they cut down and bring in 1 to 2 days before Christmas. Also, we don't go in for the fake Christmas trees that some Americans use. In America you see a lot of trees go up after Thanksgiving. Go Caroline, Scandinavia's#1!

Posted by Syd 12/15/2008 at 06:47 PM

Good evening, I see the party has drifted into this adjoining room. *looks around*

Merry Christmas (o those to celebrate) and Seasons Greetings

Hi Beth, Jackie, Nancy, and all rest Brought some champers Bols 88—Please, feel free to help yourselves.

How do you like my blacksilk bandage dress and suede Christian Louboutin's? (I must confess I feel a bit overdressed.)

Posted by Syd 12/15/2008 at 06:48 PM

Samantha,

Merry Christmas to you and goody, goody for the Swedes. Nice of them to cut their boreal forest down. Looks better than American fake though, so that's okay. :)

Posted by tina 12/15/2008 at 06:52 PM

I've pulled Tipsy in here for some quiet political conversation, and whether or not I should convert to the Orthodox church. (This is how it always starts...)

Posted by Syd 12/15/2008 at 06:55 PM

tina, haha. going over to have a look in the other room..

Posted by beth 12/15/2008 at 06:57 PM

Syd - you look fabulous
and you are certainly not overdressed
do you like the manolos and I have a new Max Azria ( burgundy satin silhouette hugging dress - just for the occasion )
bought it just the other day

Missie has a LBD - and when I say L - I mean L
( this is a mother's nightmare , let me tell ya )

Posted by Samantha Elin 12/15/2008 at 07:01 PM

LOL Syd, if that isn't bad enough, the most popular meat in Sweden is Reindeer.

Posted by Orpheo 12/15/2008 at 07:11 PM

Sam, next thing youll tell us that instead of spheres you decorate your tree with hanging squirrels....those vikings are to be feared....is it nasdarovia, prosit or what is the word for cheers in sweden.

Hi Christopher!

Merry Christmas and what not. If you flove "boreal" I can't imagine what you'd feel if someone said "Taiga" biome to you. :)

Posted by Orpheo 12/15/2008 at 08:06 PM

Merry Xmas Andrew!!
hope your wife and daughter have a wonderful time, and that your Rafa Cats enjoy some peacefull time during this tennis uneventful time

Posted by gauloises 12/15/2008 at 08:25 PM

Damn ... came in here looking for a little private space ...

Maybe Ernie and I will take a little stroll through the grounds.

Posted by Arun 12/15/2008 at 08:35 PM

> Maybe Ernie and I will take a little stroll through the grounds.

Did C1 let him go already?

Posted by Jackie 12/15/2008 at 08:39 PM

gauloises: Are you double-dipping? Triple-dipping?

Posted by gauloises 12/15/2008 at 08:40 PM

Well ... it's Christmas ... I'll let him go find her.

And I should check on Mario. He might be just about corset-ready by now.

Posted by Rosangel 12/15/2008 at 08:41 PM

Why is everyone still hanging out on the other thread? Very best seasonal wishes to you, Sylvia and Cathleen, Andrew.

Posted by gauloises 12/15/2008 at 08:41 PM

Jackie ... is there a dipping limit?

A girl doesn't get so many of her faves in one place that often, especially not with the booze flowing.

Posted by Nancy 12/15/2008 at 08:42 PM

Wow! It's quiet in here, just what I was looking for.

*off to get Gervasio*

Posted by Nancy 12/15/2008 at 08:44 PM

Oh and since no one claimed Pico or Gato yet, I'll go get them too. Triple Argie dose for Nancy.

Posted by gauloises 12/15/2008 at 08:46 PM

Nancy, just make sure he's wearing the shirt.

Posted by Syd (Form follows function) 12/15/2008 at 08:50 PM

Good night, all. Be good everyone—if you can't be good, be careful.

Merry, merry. zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz

Posted by Samantha Elin 12/15/2008 at 08:52 PM

Sorry to be OT, does anyone know a place where I can purchase tennis DVDs at a reasonable price? Thanks and Happy holidays to everyone. Go Caroline, Scandinavia's#1!

Good Night, Syd!!

Posted by gauloises 12/15/2008 at 08:53 PM

Posted by beth 12/15/2008 at 09:13 PM

gauloises - he always looks cute
but i just don't think those great eyes need eyeliner
he has such soulful eyes

LLeytsie
I was going to tell you to send me a friend request
I looked through the members and did not see your photo
but I have not looked through the photo gallery in a while
will go back and do that
that is me with Hott Sauce
he was doing an autograph session - so i asked him for the photo and he said yes

Posted by Master Ace 12/15/2008 at 09:13 PM

Pspace,
I read Steve piece on Hingis. Steve is doing a great job in going back in time covering Borg, Becker, Graf, and Hingis. Wonder who he will discuss tomorrow.

Posted by jb (pfft - but happy holidays!) 12/15/2008 at 09:15 PM

lleytsie! dude! whazzaup?

*accepts glass of shiraz*

long time no see! people mostly still over at the other too-doo. though i think its getting crowded. amazing how many posts come through - given that there's no tennis being played.

you getting all geared up for Oz?

Posted by gauloises 12/15/2008 at 09:15 PM

beth ... true, he does.

*admires her handiwork*

Anyway. I think I'll go and cuddle up with JMDP in the snow.

Goodnight all, merry Christmas.

*pushes Mario in beth's direction*

Posted by Ruth 12/15/2008 at 09:16 PM

Samantha: Nothing is OT at the TW party! FoT has often mentioned the name of a very reliable guy from whom she gets all her DVD's, but I can't remember his name.

I heard from someone who sneaked away from the party and into the TV room for a minute that TC was replaying the Rome 2008 final, and I've been taking a peek at it since then. Pretty good match.

Posted by Arun 12/15/2008 at 09:17 PM

MA: Yeah - I'm liking that discussion too. I thought Graf's (and Novotna's) game was more gorgeous than Hingis' in those videos.. It would be great if Steve can discuss Edberg and Lendl!

'Night, Queen G!!

Posted by Nancy 12/15/2008 at 09:18 PM

Merry Christmas and goodnight pub-mate!

Posted by Violetta 12/15/2008 at 09:19 PM

Good night and Happy Christmas gauloises!

*makes plan to steal Elf away after she falls asleep*

Posted by Pspace 12/15/2008 at 09:22 PM

Master Ace, your guess is as good as mine. Though, I would second Arun's wish for some Lendl coverage.

Posted by Pete 12/15/2008 at 09:22 PM

Okay, I'm a little late, but I'm ready to party like it's 1899 (my vintage!) - is everybody wandering off?

Posted by beth 12/15/2008 at 09:23 PM

"grabs Mario "

merry christmas ,Ruth

Posted by Pete 12/15/2008 at 09:24 PM

For Lendl fans, you can find some stuff if you use the search function; alternately, click on "Players, Male Pros" and that ought to produce something.

Posted by Pspace 12/15/2008 at 09:24 PM

Pete, I think I induced a little Martina ogling, by suggesting Steve's piece today. The gang should return happy :).

Posted by Master Ace 12/15/2008 at 09:25 PM

Arun,
He might but I do not think so as we are in the late 1990s when Graf was winding down and Hingis/Williams Sisters came to the scene.

Posted by Pete 12/15/2008 at 09:25 PM

Hey, Beth. You look Mahvelous!

Posted by crazyone 12/15/2008 at 09:26 PM

hehehe Arun. Ernie escaped after I gave him a good talking to about not letting his FH get out of control and choking during winnable matches. Man am I such a buzz killer.

Hey, Mirka gives Fed advice too, right?

;)

Posted by Master Ace 12/15/2008 at 09:26 PM

NP,
CBS theme on the NBA was not bad.

Posted by crazyone 12/15/2008 at 09:27 PM

BTW Beth, that dress sounds amazing...

'nite gauloises! remember, you'll need to return the elf by oz, 'kay?

Posted by Pete 12/15/2008 at 09:29 PM

Sure, i'm at that point where discrimination in beverages has long gone out the window. Where's Jackie, sleeping it off in the hall closet?

Posted by Lleytsie (Shiraz or Coopers Anyone?) 12/15/2008 at 09:29 PM

pete

for some reason - i do miss Hingis a lot today, miss her toothey smile and precision laser ground strokes

i think steve's post brought the nostalgia

sad she ended the way she did

Posted by Nancy 12/15/2008 at 09:29 PM

Crazyone - What are you doing girl? this is a party, let the poor boy have some fun.

Happy Holidays, Pete!

Posted by Nancy 12/15/2008 at 09:32 PM

LOL Jenni! I was wondering when will you show up and claim el Gato. Heck it's Christmas, I can share ;) just tell him to smile at my direction one more time.

Posted by Lleytsie (Shiraz or Coopers Anyone?) 12/15/2008 at 09:32 PM

yeah mate, i really get nervous only for three things in life

1. the day results come out after exams
2. the day my mum surprise visits my room *really scary*
3. the night when i reach into the fridge to see I hav only ONE beer left

Posted by Pete 12/15/2008 at 09:32 PM

I know what you mean about Hingis,Lleytsie - remember my "Firekitten" posts and how much discussion they caused on Hingis's comeback? Actually one of the first blog posts I wrote was about a chance meeting with Hingis, it was headlined The Champagne Water Slide, but I don't think it was ever archived, it goes back so far.

Posted by NP 12/15/2008 at 09:32 PM

MA, got your messages. With you on both counts. ESPN/ABC needs to bring the Tesh theme back, and the CBS theme wasn't half bad. Just wanted to say the NBC theme is better. :)

Posted by Jackie 12/15/2008 at 09:32 PM

Pete, I'm here! Was talking over a master plan with Beth.

Already napped off all that water and buche de noel. Totally ready for Party Part 2. Or is it 3 ... or 4 ...

Posted by Jenni 12/15/2008 at 09:33 PM

Hey Arun, good to *see* you too! How's it going?

Posted by Pete 12/15/2008 at 09:34 PM

Been a while, Nancy. Hope you're well and the season brings you all good things. How's the hunk?

Btw, Pete is that "Federer" article of yours still available online. It's impossible to search for, as you might imagine :)
