The Deuce Club, 11.6 11/06/2009 - 5:00 PM

By Jackie Roe, TW Social Director

Good evening, TWibe! It's already November - how on earth did that happen? Raise your hand if you're not looking forward to the dreadful winter weather. *raises hand* Aussiemarg and others in warm climates, gloating isn't allowed!

92776280 As you all know, I was in Washington, D.C. last weekend to see my sister give a recital (she's a pianist) and visit some relatives. I had a wonderful time, though I missed hanging out here in the Deuce Club. How was everyone's Halloween? Did any of you dress up? If so, I'd love to see your costume! If you're willing to share your look with the group, please send photos to my Tennis.com e-mail and I'll include 'em in next week's DC.

So how about them Yankees, eh? For those living under a rock, the New York Yankees are the World Series champions for the 27th time, clinching the title in Game 6 on Wednesday night over the Philadelphia Phillies. Phillies fans - commiserations, especially to Sam! - will likely cringe at the following sentiment, but in many ways, it seemed like a Yankee victory was destined. (I won't detail the reasons here, lest the many Yankee detractors tar and feather me(!), but I'm happy to do so in the Comments if requested.) I'm over the moon, being a staunch supporter of the champs, but I'm also lamenting the end of the baseball season. The postseason, in particular. What will I watch now?! And how unfortunate that the tennis season is drawing to a close, too.

Speaking of which, I wanted to devote today's DC to the end of the WTA season. Sure, we have yet to see who wins in Bali ... and the Fed Cup final looms ... but as the season-ending championships have just passed, I thought this was an appropriate time to bid adieu to 2009. (Note that I'll do the same for the men when that time comes. Still about another month to go!)

You'll recall that I did this last year - combined the WTA and ATP awards, though - and it was a big hit. (Click here to see the post.) I wasn't about to mess with a winning formula, so below you'll see that I've reprised last year's awards. But as I'm also a fan of surprises, I've added a couple of new categories. You're more than welcome to come up with some of your own, too!

90714736 Take a look at all of the awards and tell us who deserves to win what (and why, if possible). Consider both singles and doubles, and if you're stumped by a category, feel free to skip it - there's no such thing as an incomplete entry!

WTA Awards:
  • Most Valuable Player
  • Most Improved Player
  • Breakout Player
  • Most Disappointing Player
  • Best Rivalry
  • Match of the Year
  • Most Inspiring or Shocking or Funny Moment (take your pick!)

And introducing the new, more "fun" ones:

  • Best/Worst Dressed (on or off the court)
  • Miss Congeniality
  • Most WTF? Performance
I'll reveal my awardees next week (though like last year, I've given away my pick for Most Inspiring Moment in the above photo - couldn't resist!). Have a great weekend, TWibe!

The Yankess just got lucky.

Posted by Jackie 11/06/2009 at 05:02 PM

Maybe the Yankess did, but the Yankees didn't. ;)

Howdy, NP. Always so quick to the punch.

Posted by Emma (insertwittymantrahere) 11/06/2009 at 05:02 PM

How does NP always make it here first?

Posted by Jackie 11/06/2009 at 05:02 PM

LOL, Emma. He just loves the DC *that* much.

Posted by Jacko (Private Detective) Kim FTW!!!!!!!!! 11/06/2009 at 05:06 PM

BEPA-FLAVIE WTF!!!!! BEPA-FLAVIA WTF!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! :P

Posted by NP 11/06/2009 at 05:06 PM

Ah, good catch, Jax. But the Yankees also got lucky.

"How does NP always make it here first?"

Dunno. But has nothing to do with luck.

Posted by Jackie 11/06/2009 at 05:06 PM

HAHAHA! Indeed, Jacko.

Want to see the rest of your list! I figured you and MA would appreciate this DC ...

Posted by Mr. X 11/06/2009 at 05:08 PM

NP is just hiding in the shadows, waiting for the DC to appear to be first:)
Hi Jackie! Congratulations on your team, but hey, i'm not living under a rock, and only knew about them winning here. We have much more important things to worry about in this side of the pond:)
And yes, i had another baseball prediction right. Maybe it turns out i'm a baseball specialist:)

Posted by Emma (insertwittymantrahere) 11/06/2009 at 05:10 PM

Firstly, I flove this topic, Miss Jax! Thanks. Awesome as per usual!

Most Valuable Player; Fed. Two slams. Nuff said.
Most Improved Player; Delpo
Breakout Player; Blahroline Wozniacki/ Hott Sauce
Most Disappointing Player; Ana Ivanovic
Best Rivalry: Rafa and Nole
Match of the Year; Rafa vs Nando AO semi
Most Inspiring or Shocking or Funny Moment; Funny: Nole imitating Rafa at Roma. So awesome.
Best/Worst Dressed (on or off the court); Fed. Hands down.
Miss Congeniality; Flavia Pennetta. So much epic win.
Most WTF? Performance; The Sod beats Rafa. Still not over it.

Posted by Jackie 11/06/2009 at 05:10 PM

Mr. X! I've missed you. And HA, perhaps the best sports predictions are made by those who don't follow 'em. I'm reminded of some past SP winners ...

The rock comment was originally followed by an exclamation point to denote sarcasm, but I took it out at the last minute, thinking it was already too !-heavy. Shoulda gone with that first instinct!

How are ya?

Posted by Master Ace 11/06/2009 at 05:10 PM

Awards:

Most Valuable Player - Serena Williams despite her USO tirade
Most Improved Player - Victoria Azarenka
Breakout Player - Yanina Wickmayer
Most Disappointing Player - Nicole Vaidisova
Best Rivalry - Victoria Azarenka vs Caroline Wozniacki
Match of the Year - Serena Williams vs Elena Dementieva Wimbledon SF
Most Inspiring or Shocking or Funny Moment - Caroline Wozniacki crying after defeating Vera Zvonareva at Doha on a bad hamstring and cramps and Amelie Mauresmo winning Paris
Best/Worst Dressed (on or off the court) - Jelena Jankovic for her dress at the SEWTA Players party last Saturday
Miss Congeniality - Caroline Wozniacki
Most WTF? Performance - Dinara Safina at the French Open final and Wimbledon semifinal

Posted by Jackie 11/06/2009 at 05:11 PM

Emma, dear, you're jumping ahead! WTA only today. We'll do the boys after the WTF.

But still love your picks. ;)

Posted by NP 11/06/2009 at 05:12 PM

“And yes, i had another baseball prediction right. Maybe it turns out i'm a baseball specialist:)”

Mr. X, there was so much luck on the Yankees’ side that they had maybe a one-in-a-million chance of losing. Your predictions still don’t hold a candle to my CB’s.

Posted by Jackie 11/06/2009 at 05:13 PM

MA!

Veryyyy interesting. I don't think I could've predicted some of those.

And just to clarify - is the Woz/Doha incident your pick for inspiring or shocking (or funny, for that matter)? And is JJ best or worst dressed? I'm gonna guess the latter. ;)

Posted by Mr. X 11/06/2009 at 05:13 PM

"Breakout Player; Blahroline Wozniacki"
Emma, has anybody told you you are a meanie? Just ask mina, when she appears:)
I'm fine, Jackie. Spending the week working at the uni, now with some free time, but the rain has come after a surprisingly good start of autumn, and it's probably here to stay. Working on my plans for tomorrow:)
Any wrestling news? I'm currently out of it, until the road to WM starts (or the Rock is guest host, whatever happens first)

Posted by Jacko (Private Detective) Kim FTW!!!!!!!!! 11/06/2009 at 05:14 PM

Most Valuable??....Begrudgingly Serena....
Most Improved....oh....I can think of many....Woz, Vika, Flavia, Stosur, Wickmayer...........I think i'll take Wickmayer...cos she prob moved the most this season....
Breakout Player.....Wozniacki or Lisicki...
Most Disappointing....up til Wimbly JJ...but undoubtedly Ana...
Best Rivalry.......Safina-Critics.......or Demmy-Serena possibly...
Match of the year....Wimbly Serena-Demmy...how common of me......i cant think of a different match!!! ;-)
Most Inspiring...Kim....or Melanie
Most Shocking......"I'll Shove this F'in ball down ur throat"....Wicky's Suspension......
Funniest Moment....The Cat on the court in Bali springs to mind...or Wozniacki's thinking she won at eastbourne only for a late call! :P

Posted by Master Ace 11/06/2009 at 05:14 PM

Emma,
Under your match of the year, that is going to be difficult for me to pick after the ATP season is over as you had Rafael/Roger at AO F and Rafael/Novak at Madrid SF also along with your pick of Rafael/Fernando V.

Posted by Master Ace 11/06/2009 at 05:15 PM

Jackie,
Caroline win was inspiring and correct on Jelena.

Posted by Mr. X 11/06/2009 at 05:16 PM

NP,
Of course, if my prediction had turned out to be wrong, i would have said that i had changed my picks in the last moment. You know, just like your CBs do. By the way, any news from them about the upcoming tournaments? Safin for Bercy, maybe?

Posted by Jackie 11/06/2009 at 05:16 PM

Mr. X, feels like the wrestling world is asleep. Or maybe that's just me when I'm watching Raw. ;)

Hmmm. Hogan signed with TNA, did you hear? And what else - Ozzy and Sharon hosted Raw last week and I'm fairly certain Ozzy didn't have a clue where he was, what he was doing, or that it was Monday.

OH! One of the funniest moments in a loooong time on Raw: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=m4kSr5xmj-o

Posted by Jacko (Private Detective) Kim FTW!!!!!!!!! 11/06/2009 at 05:18 PM

hmmmm....i think Wozniacki-Zvonareva more on the funny side.......i mean it seemed surprisingly over-dramatic.....and Bepa had a nosebleed!!! :P.....but yeah...get the whole inspiring thing.....

Posted by Emma (insertwittymantrahere) 11/06/2009 at 05:18 PM

Ruh roh! Sorry Jax!
Most Valuable Player; Serena
Most Improved Player; Blahroline
Breakout Player; Wickmayer
Most Disappointing Player; Ana Ivanovic
Best Rivalry: Lena vs Rere
Match of the Year; Lena vs Rere Wimby semi
Most Inspiring or Shocking or Funny Moment; Bepa's USO breakdown vs Flavs. Hilarious on so many levels.
Worst Dressed (on or off the court); JJ. I flove her, but 4 reals.
Miss Congeniality; Flavia Pennetta, whom I am in love with.
Most WTF? Performance; Dina at the AO and FO. :-(

Posted by Jacko (Private Detective) Kim FTW!!!!!!!!! 11/06/2009 at 05:18 PM

oh nicole..........well i gave up on her last year...

Posted by NP 11/06/2009 at 05:19 PM

Mr. X, no predictions until the last minute. C'mon, U should know this by now.

Posted by Jackie 11/06/2009 at 05:19 PM

"Of course, if my prediction had turned out to be wrong, i would have said that i had changed my picks in the last moment. You know, just like your CBs do"

Ha. ;)

Love the Jacko perspective. And gotta say I'm pretty surprised about all these Wicky nods. Maybe 'cause she's top of mind?

Posted by CL 11/06/2009 at 05:21 PM

Worst dressed - Fed at Wimby! And unfortunate meeting of Sgt. Pepper and Capt. Stubbing. If only it had been Capt. Spaulding.

Posted by Jackie 11/06/2009 at 05:22 PM

CL, you gotta save that for when I do the ATP awards!

And long time, no speak!

Posted by Emma (insertwittymantrahere) 11/06/2009 at 05:22 PM

Yeah MA, that's a toughie.
I went with Rafa vs Nando cos of the fact that I felt like I needed a lie down after watching it. It was unbelievable. Just ridiculously entertaining.
Rafa vs Roger final was good, but not as consistently brilliant.
As for Rafa vs Nole Madrid, that is a close second. So amazing, but I felt that Rafa didn't start playing well thil half way through the second set, which is why I went with the AO semi.

Posted by Jacko (Private Detective) Kim FTW!!!!!!!!! 11/06/2009 at 05:22 PM

Yes.....in Miss Universe I think Flavai wud just pip Wozniacki to Miss Congeniality...due to her being 50% Italian, 50% Awesome Sauce!!!....and that Daddy Woz wud be screaming at Caroline saying that her talent portion (balancing plates) wasnt up to her standard....

I'll save Best and Worst dressed for the top 10...which i'll save til mid off-season probably........although JJ features in both sides....as does vika, wozniacki and serena......

oh...and another WTF??....Dominika-Masha

Posted by mina (meanie and proud of it) 11/06/2009 at 05:22 PM

"Breakout Player; Blahroline Wozniacki"
Emma, has anybody told you you are a meanie? Just ask mina, when she appears:)

meanies are present and accounted for!

and yes, i concur with the Blahroline tag :P

Posted by Lynnard the Lizard 11/06/2009 at 05:23 PM

I HEART JACKIE!!! I'm hacking into The Deuce Club to express my undying love for her! She's the bestest!! XOXO

Posted by Jackie 11/06/2009 at 05:23 PM

HAHA!

Lynnard is my bestie co-worker, guys. Say hi!

Posted by Emma (insertwittymantrahere) 11/06/2009 at 05:24 PM

LOL Mr. X, I know I'm a meanie, but Blahroline bores me to tears, though I have got a new found respect for her after Doha. Still though, to me, she's like porridge in human form. zzzzzzz.

Posted by Rachael 11/06/2009 at 05:25 PM

Hi!

Posted by Jacko (Private Detective) Kim FTW!!!!!!!!! 11/06/2009 at 05:25 PM

not really Jax......i wanted her and Lisicki to get some mentions on my part.....cos i was a huge fdan back in early 08.......but no one heard of them til this year........and she did win her first two titles and make a GS semi.......not to mention Lisicki displayed her awesomeness too...

Posted by Emma (insertwittymantrahere) 11/06/2009 at 05:25 PM

mina!! I <3 you girl!!! Sorry bout the unfortunate Fed hair situation by the way!

Jacko, Flavs is better than life. FACT!

Posted by Jacko (Private Detective) Kim FTW!!!!!!!!! 11/06/2009 at 05:26 PM

hello Lynnard!!!...anyone who realises Jackie's awesome is good in my books!! ;)

Posted by Mr. X 11/06/2009 at 05:27 PM

Jackie,
I understand TNA is another company, but have never watched any of it, and quite frankly, dont intend to. Dealing with the WWE is more than enough. About Hogan, enough already is all i can say. It's been a very long time since 1990, Hulkster. Ozzy is probably in that state most of the time:)
And that clip is either incredibly funny or incredibly creepy. I havent made up my mind yet:)

And she keeps the "Blahroline" thing. I'm warning you, Emma. You'll be in trouble if you-know-who appears:)

Posted by Jackie 11/06/2009 at 05:27 PM

I wish Caro got more love around here! It's having the opposite effect on me ... I'm getting more and more fond of her ...

Just the contrarian in me comin' out, huh. ;)

Posted by Jackie 11/06/2009 at 05:27 PM

RACHAEL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Posted by Jacko (Private Detective) Kim FTW!!!!!!!!! 11/06/2009 at 05:27 PM

i bvelieve we've discussed this before Emma!! :P OMG.....Sunday Flavia-Oudin....match filled with awesome...and if Melanie still has her shoes.....the stadium may explode in awesome....

Posted by Jacko (Private Detective) Kim FTW!!!!!!!!! 11/06/2009 at 05:29 PM

hmmmm......another good rivalry this year.....aa certain fan of things scandinavian.......and fans of the injury faker....

Posted by Jackie 11/06/2009 at 05:29 PM

All right, to those of y'all who joined TW later in the game ... meet Rachael, one of THE most fabulous ladies anywhere, of all time. In fact, I used to refer to her as The Almighty.

Rach, embarrassed yet? :)

Yay for this DC bringing out my besties.

Posted by C Note 11/06/2009 at 05:29 PM

*tap tap* Is this thing on?

Just wanted to reluctantly congratulate Jackie on her Yanks' win. It bothers me that Nick Swisher has a ring, but whatevs.

Posted by Jacko (Private Detective) Kim FTW!!!!!!!!! 11/06/2009 at 05:30 PM

i think players other than Rafa and Fed hav a quota on allowed love.......and samantha fills that daily quota for Wozniacki......

Posted by Mr. X 11/06/2009 at 05:30 PM

It's "The Attack of the meanies"!:)
"she's like porridge in human form"
There's probably a nasty joke in there, but i'll contain myself:)
Hi Lynnard. Jackie's co-worker is a lizard? What do you do again, Jackie?:)

Posted by Jacko (Private Detective) Kim FTW!!!!!!!!! 11/06/2009 at 05:31 PM

*showers rachael in love*

Posted by Rachael 11/06/2009 at 05:31 PM

when did I stop being The Almighty, btw?

Posted by Lynnard the Lizard 11/06/2009 at 05:31 PM

Hi Rachael and Jacko!

I wish I had a clue what you all are talking about. I just ask Jackie for weekly Fed-Mirka updates. I want more on the twins!!

Have a good evening! Enjoy the rewards ceremony :)

Posted by beth 11/06/2009 at 05:31 PM

Rachael !!!! so good to see you here

as I rarely watch the WTA I don't really have any awards to pass out

other than
MVP - Serena
most WTF moment - Serena's outburst at the lineswoman
that 's it

Posted by mina (meanie and proud of it) 11/06/2009 at 05:31 PM

"the stadium may explode in awesome...."

this is why i heart Jacko.

Mr X, i say Emma can take Scandinavian Number 1's biggest fan any day! bring it girlfriend! LOL

Emma, i bet Jackie, vetmama and company would love to have the Fed hair sitch. LOL

excellent DC as per yoosh, Jax. sorry i don't have anything meaningful to post as yet hehe

Posted by Emma (insertwittymantrahere) 11/06/2009 at 05:31 PM

LOL Mr.X, if you know who shows up, I'm screwed! Oh well, c'est la vie!

Yes, we have discussed it Jacko. I flove Flavia. She gives me wowzers in my trowzers. So much win. XXD

Posted by Jackie 11/06/2009 at 05:32 PM

I think we've scared off Lynn.

And C Note, too?! What did I do to deserve this! Thanks, awfully. And I have no attachment to Swisher whatsoever - did he even do anything in the postseason? ;)

Posted by Lynnard the Lizard 11/06/2009 at 05:32 PM

Hi Mr. X. We work at geico

Posted by Emma (insertwittymantrahere) 11/06/2009 at 05:32 PM

Posted by Master Ace 11/06/2009 at 05:33 PM

Rachael,
How have you been lately?

Posted by Jackie 11/06/2009 at 05:34 PM

Or not! There she is. :)

Wait, what Fed hair sitch? I'm clearly bad at multi-tasking.

HI, BETH! That's contribution enough!

Posted by Tigress 11/06/2009 at 05:34 PM

A belated big Yaaay for the Yankees; and especially the Core Four, A-Rod, Johnny (double steal) Damon, C.C. and Swishelicious (former long-haired Oakland A). And also kudos to the excellent Phillies. Two of my favorite teams, and hoping for a rematch next year. That is, unless the pitching rich SF Giants can nab the N.L. pennant.

Looking forward to the 4th annual Roger Federer victory pizza party with his fellow Basel ballkids on Sunday!

Posted by Jacko (Private Detective) Kim FTW!!!!!!!!! 11/06/2009 at 05:34 PM

oh......another breakthrough player....Maria Jose Martinez Sanchez....and her and nuria llagostera vives deserves a whole load of awards here if we do doubles...............and someone put Kimiko somewhere!! :P

LOl beth, and I thought that was diplomatic of me! Ha!

Posted by Rachael 11/06/2009 at 05:35 PM

hi beth and Master Ace :)
how are y'all doing?
I'm the same as always. good old reliable Rachael.
this place is so frustrating to use. I don't miss that.

Posted by Jackie 11/06/2009 at 05:36 PM

HA, I was gonna say that same thing re: Geico. But considering you're in Spain, Mr. X, that probably makes noooo sense.

Hey, Tigress! So much love for the Core Four. And Hideki, of course.

mina! Don't you apologize - your presence is enough!

Posted by naughty T.... but don't forget we are all morons 11/06/2009 at 05:36 PM

hmmm I can't quite go with an unfit girl getting cramps as being inspiring.
I like Sammy Stoners comeback from life threatening illness to finally win a singles title. Kimmy is probably the one for me though.
Woz's horrid puffy sack and everything that jj wore all season are the absolute pits and JJ can claim that off court honour for never failing to look like an eastern European hooker at any public event... though Dinaras make-up at the Doha launch was spectacularly grotesque.

Posted by Rachael 11/06/2009 at 05:37 PM

hey crazyone! boy it's been a long time. I hope you have been doing awesome in my absence.

Posted by Jackie 11/06/2009 at 05:38 PM

Jacko, I'll miss you! Talk soon.

*waves to crazyone*

Rach (and everyone else), just make sure not to use the word that means Big Guy Upstairs, 'cause it'll get caught in the Spam filter. Nothing more frustrating than that, I'm pretty sure.

Posted by Emma (insertwittymantrahere) 11/06/2009 at 05:38 PM

"JJ can claim that off court honour for never failing to look like an eastern European hooker at any public event"
POTD. nT FTW!

Posted by NP 11/06/2009 at 05:38 PM

Cheating Geico is so easy even a caveman could do it.

Posted by beth 11/06/2009 at 05:39 PM

thanks, Jackie - always look forward to the Deuce

as for baseball - my team lost the round before - and I am deep down just more of a National League fan - so I was hoping the Phillies would win this one . But the Yankees were just too good.
and - how can a fan of man candy be upset when Pettite, Jeter and A Rod are on the television - I mean really

now - since someone mentioned the Giants - seems yet another athlete has gotten himself into a bit of a drug related bust . But this one is legal , and just a misdemeanor. Lincecum - pitcher for the Giants - was busted for marijuana possession yesterday .
Have any of you seen this guy ? I mean here is a Cy Young winner ( or at least a potential one ) who is 25 years old - and looks like a junior in high school. If he had shown up on my doorstep saying he was here to take Missie to the prom - I would not have questioned his age at all . Talk about baby face

Posted by Jackie 11/06/2009 at 05:39 PM

The Almighty Rachael, clearly that never stopped.

HA, naughty! Only you.

Posted by Rachael 11/06/2009 at 05:40 PM

thanks for the heads up, Aunt J.

it's political correctness gone mad.

Posted by Jackie 11/06/2009 at 05:40 PM

The Almighty thing, I mean.

I'm having issues today! Probably because I'm overwhelmed with happiness.

Posted by CL 11/06/2009 at 05:41 PM

Jackie - oops...sorry..jumped the ATP gun.

OK, worst dressed among the WTA - Caro, for her Lady Haversham's Moldy Wedding Cake Poof, courtesy of Stella McCartney. (that was Caro, right?)

Posted by Corrie 11/06/2009 at 05:42 PM

Porridge is my favourite food. I actually like Caroline inspite of all of Samantha's efforts to cause the opposite.

Posted by Jackie 11/06/2009 at 05:42 PM

Rach, no - it's more a poster with said name going mad. Well, not MAD (in case said poster is reading!). Just, like, inappropriate. Or something.

Anyway, yeah. Don't say it. ;)

Posted by CL 11/06/2009 at 05:42 PM

Rachel - is it really you!!??!!

Posted by Master Ace 11/06/2009 at 05:42 PM

Rachael,
Where have you been hanging out lately?

Posted by Jackie 11/06/2009 at 05:42 PM

Corrie! Yeah, that's what I was trying to say earlier re: Caro.

Awards, people!

Posted by C Note 11/06/2009 at 05:43 PM

Fun Game:

Most Valuable -- Ugh, fine. Serena.

Most Improved -- Stosur.

Breakout Player -- If you asked me 6 months ago I'd have to go with Vika. But she fell off the ledge and I don't think you can argue against Caroline.

Most Disappointing -- JJ. WHERE WAS THE GLITTER???

Best Rivalry -- WTA vs. JJ

Match of the year -- Flavia vs. Bepa @ USO. I mean, that's the WTA right there.

Most Inspiring -- Kim

Most Shocking -- SerenaGate

Funniest Moment -- Agi/Ula lipsynching/dancing Poker Face. Or Woz and Daddy Woz dancing to Single Ladies. I love it when the WTA goes all Glee.

Posted by beth 11/06/2009 at 05:44 PM

another good one , Naughty T!

see , I should just let it go - and not worry about deleting
you guys get away with stuff

but if I did it , I would get shot down
i am sure of it

I guess I could comment on fashion
Was this the year of Kleybanova's hideous purple / yellow garb - if that was this year - AO I believe - she wins for worst dressed in my book

Posted by mina (meanie and proud of it) 11/06/2009 at 05:44 PM

beth, i'd like to hear some zingers from you :D

Jax, i woke up today with images of Fed's hair in my head. needless to say, that was a shocker. the universe is conniving with my USO calendar... fell on my head and saw Fed just when i woke up. been thinking of the wavy brown locks since. haha

Posted by naughty T.... but don't forget we are all morons 11/06/2009 at 05:45 PM

Kimiko Date Crumble is awesome and I wish I had the recipe.
Flavs US open dress was so brilliant, the only thing missing was that she did not get to ride onto court side saddle on a vespa with a scarf over her hair and wearing big sunglasses.

Posted by harini 11/06/2009 at 05:45 PM

Jackie, I made it!!! Yay for me being on Twitter today, LOL.

OK, now to the serious stuff:

Most Valuable Player - I'm going to say JMDP just because I still can't get over him winning his first slam in such a thrilling match. He totally deserved it.
Most Improved Player - Oh man. No idea? Marin, maybe. I think Andy Roddick too, but he's had a disappointing post-Wimbledon. Nole's been meh and Rafa's had a pretty good post-injury season. I'll just stick with Marin, he's been doing really well this year, for the most part.
Breakout Player -
Most Disappointing Player - I'll stick with Marat. So much for his last season and then he suddenly starts playing decent towards the end of the year. Go figure.
Best Rivalry - Was there a rivalry this year? LOL. Rafa-Roger went away pretty quick. Yeah, I don't have an answer for this one.
Match of the Year - Either the AO final or the USO final. Although, I think Verdasco beating Murray at AO was really just amazing and also, Verdasco v. Rafa in the AO semis. I couldn't even breathe that morning. I can't put the Wimbledon final here, 'cos it was heartbreaking to watch. I seriously couldn't take it yet I sat around and watched and watched.
Most Inspiring or Shocking or Funny Moment (take your pick!) - My brain can't go back to earlier this season for all these questions! It's been too long! Shocking moment, ooh I have one. The whole Dick Enberg not giving JMDP enough time to make his speech in Spanish. WTF was that?

I can't think for the new ones right now Jackie. Maybe i'll come back to them, hehe.

Hope everyone's having a great Friday! How's everyone today?

beth - well I read it as "people in human form"...which was less mean but more was confusing.

I think you should do less self editing. Mrs. Santa isn't around enough and we need someone to pick up the acerbic and astringent slack.

Miss Jackie!!! Can't stay long, again :( My lil bro's state cross country race is tomorrow!!!! I'm going home so I can go to the race. In other news I got a Kitten!!

Okay - firstly I would like to point out that NFL Week 8 only just concluded, so you can always watch guys in pads hit each other :D (it never fails to make me smile)

Awards:
Match of the year: Demmy-Serena Wimbledon (though Miss Mel had some awesome matches throughout USO)
Most Inspiring Player: Miss Mel (i just adore her)
Most Shocking Moment: Serena's tirade

beth, I think we're a little more lenient here in the DC. :) So long as you're not insulting posters or whatnot, of course.

HAHAHA, mina! That's hilarious! I do love the hair.

C Note, good picks. And as you already know, I am OBSESSED with the Poker Face clip. I keeeeeeeep watching it.

Wait, I don't know that I've seen the Single Ladies thing. Link?

Rachael - did you survive the 09 edition of the 'Tournament in England that dares not speak its name'...to you anyway??

Posted by beth 11/06/2009 at 05:47 PM

mina - one of these days - maybe when I make it the AO in person
Jackie can tell you - I am ruthless , under my breath

in print - not going so far

do like the image of Flavia with the big sunglasses , etc on a Vespa
so Sophia Loren

I love that the WTA is a complete blindspot for some folk. LOL

Posted by Jackie 11/06/2009 at 05:48 PM

harini!!!!!! And you went the ATP route, too. Y'all are impatient lil' buggers. ;)

TT! IW buddy! Safe travels, enjoy the kitty, and stop by later (maybe?)!

hanging out in gutters mainly, MA.

I kid.
mostly in bed.

"HA, I was gonna say that same thing re: Geico. But considering you're in Spain, Mr. X, that probably makes noooo sense."
None at all, Jackie. But hey, it doesnt matter. After all, many of the things i say myself dont make any sense either:)
OK, let's continue:
Best/Worst Dressed: Worst, that thing the Hott Woz has been wearing since the USO. Best,a nything Flavia wears, cause she's awesome.
Miss Congeniality: Victoria Azarenka. Or Vera Zvonareva, not sure. Yes, i've been smoking the same thing than that Giants guy beth wrote about:) Seriously, the Hott Woz, of course.
Most WTF? Performance: See my vote for Funniest Moment. Although Safina at the USO is pretty close.

What is also kind of WTF?? is that the Year End Championships don't end the year. Huh??

Posted by Jackie 11/06/2009 at 05:49 PM

HA, naughty.

beth, I wouldn't call you RUTHLESS. Just ... honest. ;)

Man, I'm using a ton of exclamations. Jacko influence.

So the WTA only then? Good, ‘cause I wasn’t about to submit premature nominations.

Here goes:

Most Valuable Player - Whoever is the best-looking gal (yet undecided).
Most Improved Player - There have been improvements?
Breakout Player - Kimmie. Or Justine. Either of the 2 Belgians.
Most Disappointing Player - Lena. Still no major, and had the chance of her life in the Wimby SF, but failed to grab it.
Best Rivalry - Zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz. Bring back Hingis for some real jabs.
Match of the Year - Serena-Kimmie USO SF. On more than one level.
Most Nauseating Moment - The whole media gaga-fest over Oudin.

Oh, and just to confirm my love of all things Scandinavian…

Biggest Drama Queen - Blahroline.

Posted by Rachael 11/06/2009 at 05:50 PM

oh go...sh, CL, I barely survived that.
I had to phone in sick to work for the two days after.
I was so drunk by the fifth set I watched it but never saw it.
woke up on the floor with a towel round my head 5 hours later.
bad times. very, very bad times.
*shudders*

Posted by Jackie 11/06/2009 at 05:50 PM

And brilliant handle, naughty. ;)

"the image of Flavia with the big sunglasses , etc on a Vespa"

love!

PokerFace Radwanskas take the cake as the Funniest.

JJ's Doha dress with the faces on it is officially the worst! from her own line to boot. eek!!!

Posted by beth 11/06/2009 at 05:51 PM

will work on it then

just the few times I have made some of my beotchy remarks - I got shot down as being really mean - some people are just so sensitive about their favorites
so I self edit -
at least that way I don't get banned

and I do miss Mrs Santa - she was around a bit this week - maybe she will show up again soon ?
