The Deuce Club, 12.11 12/11/2009 - 5:00 PM

By Jackie Roe, TW Social Director

Hi there, TWibe! Are y'all going through tennis withdrawal yet? I hope not - and I promise sticking around TW will mitigate those symptoms.

While I said I'd be sharing my ATP Award winners this week, I've decided to push it back until next Friday, considering today's Deuce Club is jam-packed as is. Plus, this means I can reminisce about the past season for another week. Anything to hold me over until the 2010 season starts up, right?

I'm still accepting TW Award nominations, so make sure to send those my way if you haven't already! Remember that these awards recognize TWibe members for their unique contributions to this community. We traditionally hand out a Poster of the Year award, so don't forget to include your picks for both male and female PotY in your submission. I had been asking that you send your ideas to my Tennis.com e-mail address, but it was brought to my attention that the account isn't working. While I get that sorted out, use the e-mail behind my moniker in blue instead, and I apologize if your e-mails got bounced back (please resend if that was the case!).

675202 It's that time of the year again - when all thoughts turn to the holiday season and shopping malls become our second home on the weekends as we seek to fulfill our loved ones' gift wishes. As the years pass, the holidays become less about what we want and more about what others want, and making sure they get just that. A good thing, no doubt ... but would it be so terrible if we took a timeout and allowed ourselves to make our own wish lists, like we did as kids?

Okay, so maybe that's a little silly. But not where tennis is concerned, I say!

Last year at this time, the lovely and impossibly witty gauloises came up with the idea to create tennis wish lists (click here to see the post), and as it went over so well, I figured we might as well give it a go again this year! What would you like to see happen during the 2010 tennis season?

Of course, we can't do this without our fearless wish list-making leader; I've asked gauloises to evaluate her old wish list and provide us with a new one for 2010 to get us started. Take it away, g!

Funny how the vast majority of my wishes for 2009 now appear optimistic to the point of delusion, even the ones that came true. I shall review them briefly and bitterly (it’s my métier).

1) Murray to play Federer in the final of a slam, and win. – Ha! As if. Although if it hadn’t been for that meddling Andy Roddick, or that pesky Verdasco, or that nosy butt-rubbing Gonzo, or that upstart Marin … okay, I’m depressing myself.
2) Crazy Elf to stay in the top 10. Maybe win a Masters or two, make the semis of a Slam. I'm not greedy. – Well, he still doesn’t have a Masters title, but I think we can let that slide under the circumstances.
3) A Channel Slam for Federer. (It could happen!) – And for my next trick, my race of atomic supermen will conquer the world.
4) Baby Owl to beat Rafa again, because that was fun. – Again, a bitter "ha." The closest Gilles got to beating Rafa in 2009 was having slightly less debilitating knee problems.
5) Mario to stay away from mono, jet skis, barbells, and lepers; somehow stay healthy; and make a surprise run to the Wimbledon final, where he will play in hotpants. – Once, twice and thrice "ha." Instead he missed most of the year with various ailments, cut off his hair, did a law internship, and started dressing like he’d joined a cult. But I did spend a lot of time mentally dressing him in hotpants.
6) Ernests to, for the love of God, STOP choking away matches that are entirely there for the winning, get his ranking up, and continue being adorable. – Oh, how naïve I was. If only I’d gone for more attainable goals, like remembering to attend matches, or not getting arrested for solicitation.
7) JJ to win a Slam. – This in no way happened. But at least Dinara took the heat off her a bit. Sigh.
8) Davis Cup redemption for the Argies! – All together now … ha! Although we did get a consoling Elf cuddling a shirtless Pico, which I’ll take.
9) Marin to have a banner year and make the WTF, where I will cheer him on. – Possibly making the WTF was a tad ambitious, but he did finally make a Slam quarterfinal. I demand more next year.
10) Great Britain to get a second player into the ATP and WTA top 100. (Yeah, that one's just pure madness. But I can dream.) – Great Britain's ATP No. 2: Alex Bogdanovic, #164. On the WTA side, it's a bit more promising: Elena Baltacha at #85, Katie O'Brien at #89, and Keo hanging in at #99 despite a severe knee injury. Not to mention our new junior girl's US Open champion, Heather Watson (and she's a Delpo fan too). You go, girls!

Optimistic, wasn’t I? Ah, those halcyon days back at the end of 2008, when all manner of wonderful things seemed possible. The iron bit into my soul at some point, though – during the fifth set of Verdasco’s defeat of Murray at the Australian Open, perhaps, or possibly between the first and second bagels dished out to Delpo in the AO quarterfinals. Although there’s been great stuff in 2009, I end it as a sadder, wiser woman, no longer daring to hope for the seemingly miraculous to occur, in the full knowledge that it won’t, or if it does I will have changed my mind and won’t want it any more. And hence I face 2010 with altogether more modest wishes …

90583295 1) Juan Martin del Potro to stay alive. - You know, I get that there’s probably going to be a slump. I get that the achievements of 2009 will probably not be immediately replicated. I’m prepared for the pressure to get to him and a loss of confidence and injuries and a general case of the Anas. So I’m going to stick with the basic minimum I can expect from this year and then everything else will come as a beautiful bonus. Just don’t die, Delpo. Just. Don’t. Die.
2) A healthier ATP. – On a similar theme, and I know this is an impossible dream, but wouldn’t it be lovely if we had a year where, say, none of the top 10 were forced to miss a Slam through injury or illness? Just a thought.
3) Andy Murray or Novak Djokovic to win a Slam. – I’m not asking for both. Just give me one of my guys holding up a big, shiny trophy somewhere.
4) Victoria Azarenka to crack the top five and make the semifinals of a Slam. – I still believe.
5) Marin Cilic to learn to string wins together, make the top 10 and play the WTFs. – It has to happen. He’s got Goran and Bob Brett, the ultimate tennistical (TM La Monf) odd couple, on his side!
6) One more year of the greatness of Fernando Gonzalez. – Whether it’s epic five-setters (see: vs. Gasquet at the AO, Ferrero at Wimbledon), smashing racquets and handing them to charmed spectators (vs. Tsonga at the USO), collapsing melodramatically on the court (vs. Delpo in Washington) or expressing his displeasure with a line call through the medium of his backside (vs. Soderling at the French), Gonzo can be relied upon to light up the dullest day.
7) The triumphant return of a healthy David Nalbandian. – I want the big man back, kicking butt and taking names. If said butt-kicking and name-taking could help the Argies win a Davis Cup tie or two, then so be it.
8) My girl Sabine Lisicki to crack the top 10. – I have almost no hope for this one. Managing to go uninjured for five minutes might help.
9) Mario Ancic to play, like, one actual match somewhere. – Preferably somewhere near me, so I can finally see my hero live. One more shining moment at Wimbledon? Please?!
10) A classic WTA singles final in a Slam. - Or at least one that goes three sets.

Loved the list, gauloises! I say by this time next year you'll be proclaiming yourself a prophet. (And if it happens, guess I'll be able to call myself one, too?)

Now it's time for the rest of you to share your wish lists! What do you hope to happen in the 2010 tennis season? On court or off, realistic or pie-in-the-sky, feel free to go in whatever direction you want with your lists. Can't wait to see 'em, and have a warm and restful weekend!

Hey, the DC! Hi, Jackie.
Before i get into it, i see what you've posted about the TW awards, and now i'm wondering if you received the list of (rather silly) nominations i sent you the other day.
If i have to make another list now, it will probably be completely different:)

Posted by aussiemarg [Madame President in Comma Rehab for 2009] 12/11/2009 at 05:11 PM

Craaaaaaaap, Mr. X, I never received it. Ughhh, I wonder how many e-mails I've lost in this mess. Do you still have it in your Sent folder? Can you resend to my e-mail in blue? SO sorry.

Posted by Jackie 12/11/2009 at 05:14 PM

That's right, AM. And I remember celebrating your anniversary, too. Man, was I hallucinating? No one had a birthday this week?

Posted by Jackie 12/11/2009 at 05:14 PM

Jacko, no "meh"-ing! You don't have to make a list if you don't wanna. Just your presence is sufficient. :)

Posted by Diane(Atlanta) 12/11/2009 at 05:16 PM

Jackie....my first wish is for Roger to remain healthy in 2010 and start with a win at the Aussie Open. Also hope that I get see one his matches. I have tickets for the first four days, split between Laver and Hisense so don't know which matches I'll see.

Posted by aussiemarg [Madame President in Comma Rehab for 2009] 12/11/2009 at 05:16 PM

Miss Jackie When is the cut off date for the nominations please

My wish list? Please Verdasco don't make me COMPLETELY insane next season - oh and that the Broncos could make the playoffs and WIN A GAME!!! (not tennis but i'm a football addict so...)

Posted by Jackie 12/11/2009 at 05:18 PM

AM, no set date. I still have to talk to Pete about end of the year plans. Holiday party, awards, etc. I'd say before Christmas maybe?

Hey Diane! Amen to that wish. :)

And how AMAZING that you're going to the AO! You must be so excited!

Posted by Jackie 12/11/2009 at 05:19 PM

TT!!!

Is that an IW countdown? <3

Posted by Jackie 12/11/2009 at 05:22 PM

I had it in said folder, Jackie. It's on its way to the new address, which by the way, i really like:)

Posted by beth 12/11/2009 at 05:24 PM

jackie !
another fun topic

I have but two wishes in the tennis year

1) That Rafa regain his French Open title . ( but , if not I will settle for holding on to the AO or regaining Wimbledon)
ok - clearly I just want him to win a slam - ok ?

2) that Gasquet gets to play - I am not even going to be greedy and say win - I am just asking that he gets to play - a whole year on tour - with no stupid suspensions, no stupid injuries , and fewer headcasey moments

Posted by TennisTarkheena (T-minus 94 DAYS!!!) 12/11/2009 at 05:26 PM

Hey AM :)
It has been a while, finally not traveling home on a Friday afternoon, so I actually get to hang around for once.

Hope you are doing well

I could tried to smuggle her along, but i'm not sure u want her around, she likes to lick EVERYTHING when she gets sleepy and loving (not fun at 3am - just saying) :D

Posted by Jackie 12/11/2009 at 05:26 PM

aussiemarg, click on my Jackie name in blue. That e-mail addy. It's Hotmail. You should also have it in your Inbox ... remember I e-mailed you way back when ... :)

LOVE the list, Jacko! And you included 10! Rockstar.

I'm so excited to see what happens with Justine ... and Kim ... and Masha ... eeeek!

Hi Beth Great nominations, yes Rafa Has to regain his RG crown thats for sure.

Posted by Jackie 12/11/2009 at 05:29 PM

HA, Mr. X! Figured you would. :) Thanks so much for re-sending.

TT, I have a feeling I'd still like it. My sister's cat used to paw my face in the middle of the night, and I just thought it was cute. :)

Evening, beth!!! Good wishes! What about the USO? You'd take that, too, wouldn't you? :)

Posted by Mr. X 12/11/2009 at 05:30 PM

"I'd say before Christmas maybe?"
If you are actually asking for suggestions, i would say anytime except next weekend, when i actually wont be here for the DC, since i will be out for the Christmas dinner with my job buddies at the university. Yes, "dinner" is an euphemism for "getting very drunk":)

Posted by aussiemarg [Madame President in Comma Rehab for 2009] 12/11/2009 at 05:30 PM

Thanks Jackie

Also Rafa to defend and Win the AO for 2010

Cause I have mens final tickets

So I expect and Want him to be in the final

I missed out this year to see him hold that trophy, due to family illness and had to dash back to Sydney ASAP

So to see him lift that tropy when I am there will just be the Tops for me.

Posted by Jackie 12/11/2009 at 05:31 PM

Uh, Mr. X, I'm 3 awards in and already beaming. These ROCK.

C'mon, guys, you can't let Mr. X run away with the best award submissions, right? Send, send!

Posted by TennisTarkheena (T-minus 94 DAYS!!!) 12/11/2009 at 05:31 PM

Hey Beth!!! I went to Cherry Creek Mall today and thought of you and Jackie and Jenn b/c that's where I met Jenn (sorry for the convoluted sentence)

and +1 for Rafa winning a slam

is Missie planning on going to the BCS championship game?

Posted by Sher 12/11/2009 at 05:34 PM

My 2009 wishes were so awesome in terms of coming true, I can only hope for 2010 to match it (Roger with FO/Wimbly double, Rafa with a hard court slam, Roddick in Wimbly final, etc)

My tennis wishes for 2010, once again, mutually exclusive because once I start wishing I cannot stop:

1) Roger to win Wimbledon
2) Roger to win at least 2 slams
3) Rafa to win USO
4) Fedal finals galore
5) Murray with a slam
6) Roddick with a slam
7) Fun matches
and,
8) To be able to see Federer and Nadal play on clay live

Posted by Jackie 12/11/2009 at 05:34 PM

TT, did I know you met Jenn? Maybe I did. Ohhhhh, can't WAIT to meet you. Roomies, yay!

Posted by Corrie 12/11/2009 at 05:34 PM

I absolutely concur with the wish to have more of the loveable Gonzo. But I've got higher ambitions for him - I want him to win a slam, preferably the French, so that his backside touches the heavens rather than the dirt, as he flies skywards in his joy.

This is all about as likely as my next wish, for Robin the Sod to singlehandedly revive tennis in Sweden by winning a slam, any one. Tennis hasn't been the same since my idol Edberg retired. Robin is the opposite of Edberg in every way, but at least he's Swedish.

These two wishes are pie in the sky unlikely, so to cut to the real thing:

I forsee Roger on the gradual decline but it would be great if he could bag a slam or two again, even if he leaves the Masters to Murray. So I hope Roger wins Wimbledon and I think he has a good chance. In fact, given that Gonzo is not likely to join the heavenly choirs over Roland Garos, I hope Roger does the Channel Slam again - and then Rafael can do it the following year.

In fact, I hope we get more of Roger versus Rafael. I absolutely don't want this great era to end. The coming parity is not going to be as enjoyable as Fedal has been, so I want it to hold off just a little longer.

But I also hope Davy can build on his success and reach some Slam finals. However, I doubt it, his strength is in indoors so I'll enjoy watching him again at the end of next year.

I wish Delpot all the best but I hope he'll hold off being the force he will be until 2011. I'm sure he'll be a future #1, but fighting off a lot of rivals to do it.

Sorry this is rather long, Jackie.

Posted by Jackie 12/11/2009 at 05:35 PM

SHER! Feels like forever. How are ya, love?

And remind me what your '09 wishes were exactly? Maybe you ARE a prophet ...

Posted by Jackie 12/11/2009 at 05:36 PM

Hi, Corrie! No apologies! Loved every word, so appreciative of all the thought you put into it. :)

I'm with you on it all!

Posted by Arun 12/11/2009 at 05:38 PM

Nice DC, G ad Jackie.

1. The Fed to win 3 titles in 2010 - one on each surface. One of those 3 should be a slam. If possible, an AMS shield should be one of these 3.
2. Roddick to win a slam. And continue to stay in the top 10 (or top 5. ha!)
3. Murray should continue to win many more titles but a slam SHOULD be one among them so that he can quash his detractors. :D
4. Argies to win the DC if and only if Nalby leads them to victory. Or the Swiss (though that's not probable).
5. Aggy to be solid top 10 player AND win some titles. :D
6. Either Nalby or Delpo to win a slam.
7. Gasquet, Soderling, Kolya, Youzhny and Berdych to win some titles here and there. even some AMS shields.
8. Kuzzy to win another slam.
9. More TV/streamage for the dubs. coz, frankly they provide some thrilling points.
10. what else? Henin for Wimby? :)

Posted by beth 12/11/2009 at 05:38 PM

jackie - well , yes , I would certainly gladly take Rafa winning the US Open if it works out that way
just that well , frankly , the other three seem way more likely

TT! - hi! yes , Missie is home and planning on attending the game . Three of her friends are coming here to stay with us that week and go to the game . Right now , she is still awaiting lottery ticket results to see if she has a seat - but she seems to think that she can get her hands on one (she apparently has a friend on the team - and they get a seat allotment , so if his whole family is not coming , she could probably purchase one of his alloted tickets )
she is sooooooo excited

Posted by beth 12/11/2009 at 05:41 PM

Arun is even more bold than I
hoping that Gasquet wins a title

I would love that to happen - any title
so what the heck - I will add that to my list
Richard - FTW ! somewhere - anywhere
big , little or in between

just win, baby

Posted by aussiemarg [Madame President in Comma Rehab for 2009] 12/11/2009 at 05:42 PM

My ulitmate wish is

Rafa to win the US OPEN 2010,cause my idol Borg didnt.

That would give him his career slam at just age 24.

Posted by Jackie 12/11/2009 at 05:43 PM

Arun! Awesome wish list. Especially like the WTA ones. :)

Posted by Jackie 12/11/2009 at 05:45 PM

If I had to pick one final GS for Fed, it'd be another RG title. Seems unlikely, though ...

Obviously, one of my wishes is for Gilles to not be gimpy all year again!

And again, hoping for big things for Justine. :)

Posted by aussiemarg [Madame President in Comma Rehab for 2009] 12/11/2009 at 05:46 PM

Womans side

My Safina to win a Slam,I dont care which one

Miss Vee to win the AO,cause thats a GS title she hasnt won

Miss Vee to reclaim her Wimby 2010,to me she still is the best grass court player in the womans game.

Posted by Jackie 12/11/2009 at 05:47 PM

AM, who's your fave WTA-er?

Also, gold star for Typepad behaving tonight. :)

Posted by TennisTarkheena (T-minus 94 DAYS!!!) 12/11/2009 at 05:48 PM

Beth - I hope that she can get a ticket (i will be rooting for 'bama though) Did you get a chance to watch the Saints almost trip up against the danged 'skins? That was a nutty game.

Posted by Corrie 12/11/2009 at 05:48 PM

Thanks Jackie!
I forgot the WTA. I hope and think that Justine will make a successful comeback. I'd love to see a Slam final between her and Serena. Or between Serena and Kim. These three bring the best out of each other. And when they're at their best there's no-one else in the same league.

Posted by aussiemarg [Madame President in Comma Rehab for 2009] 12/11/2009 at 05:49 PM

Miss Jackie Miss Vee,I think she is a sublime athlete. Also I love her disposition both on and off the court. She is a credit to the womans game.

Posted by Diane(Atlanta) 12/11/2009 at 05:51 PM

Yes Jackie---very excited about going to the Aussie Open, been on my wish list for years. Still don't know how I'm going to survive the flight!

Posted by Jackie 12/11/2009 at 05:51 PM

Corrie, that'd be terrific. Wouldn't mind throwing Masha in the mix.

AM, got it. All so very true.

Posted by ladyjulia 12/11/2009 at 05:54 PM

Wish list for 2009?

1. Four fedal GS finals.

Posted by Mr. X 12/11/2009 at 05:55 PM

"C'mon, guys, you can't let Mr. X run away with the best award submissions, right?"
As of now, i'm blocking all entrant mails in Jackie's e-mail, so that i can get said award. Yes, i'm greedy:)

OK, wishes for 2010 (i will keep posting them as they come to me):
-Delpo to dominate the Masters (It's time for the guy to start getting some of those, and i would like him to wait before winning many Slams, for a couple of years)
-Fed to win the AO (obviously, you would ask "why?". Answer is simple. The last 2 years, the player who won the AO didnt win any of the other Slams. That way, Fed can have his Slam for the season, the millions...AND MILLIONS will be mostly happy, and the others, and with that i mean Rafa, can go for the other 3. Besides, my fave is probably not gonna win it anyway, so it's the best moment for Fed to take his Slam. He's not gonna go Slam-less yet, i think)
-Nole to keep the edge. I dont care if that gets him more criticism, if he goes back to being Satan or whatever, he is at his best when he's controversial and not a hugging machine.

Posted by Jackie 12/11/2009 at 05:56 PM

Diane, my friend just got back from 2 weeks in Australia. She was dreading the flight but said it actually wasn't that bad! Just buy one of those neck pillow things and prep yourself to watch some bad movies and you'll be okay. :)

ladyjulia, for real! Though I don't know that I'd make it to the last one ... heart attacks imminent ...

Posted by Jackie 12/11/2009 at 05:58 PM

HAHA, Mr. X! So sly, you are. With the e-mail blocking. And the Fed/AO ulterior motive.

Posted by ladyjulia 12/11/2009 at 06:01 PM

Well, Jackie..i, usually, don't go berserk over Fedal finals coz usually Nadal wins them all. That pre-knowledge helps. My theory is that if Federer plays him 4 GS finals, he'll win at least two of them by being desparate to win. So, Federer gets 2 slams, Nadal gets 2 slams and I will be one happy person.

The rest of the field can win them in 2011.

Posted by Corrie 12/11/2009 at 06:03 PM

Diane, you will survive the flight! Us Aussies do it all the time!22 plus hours to London from Melbourne is the worst, but it's worth it.

Posted by Jackie 12/11/2009 at 06:05 PM

22 hours?! Wowwwww.

Posted by beth 12/11/2009 at 06:07 PM

TT - I understand why you - and Oklahoma fan - would be cheering for Bama
I just detest Nick Satan beyond the power of a thousand suns - so I hope they don't win , thank you very much :)

That flight to Australia - hmm - never been there although I hope to some day - but have flown to Fiji
long and boring flight - about 13 hours , and you cross the dateline , so the jet lag is terrible - just drink lots of water ! and move your legs as much as possible
and if there is any way that you can sleep - I recommend it

Posted by Diane(Atlanta) 12/11/2009 at 06:07 PM

Well jackie I think it might take more than a neck pillow. I usally have to take anti anxiety meds to get on any flight! We have upgraded to business class with flat bed seats and with meds hope the 18 hours will pass quickly.

Posted by Corrie 12/11/2009 at 06:08 PM

Lady Julia, don't be a pessimist. I love Fedal finals too and if they're not on clay Roger will have a very good chance of winnning if they're both healthy, maybe even on clay after his last effort.

Posted by Diane(Atlanta) 12/11/2009 at 06:11 PM

For everyone who missed Serena earlier on HSN, she is scheduled at 9 PM Eastern to present her signature collection.

Posted by beth 12/11/2009 at 06:11 PM

I think the flat bed seats that would allow you to actually get in a comfortable ( or at least more comfortable ) position for sleeping may just make the trip a bit better

I have never had that chance to find out
the long flight cramped back in economy class is the pits - that 's for sure

Posted by Corrie 12/11/2009 at 06:12 PM

My dream is to fly to London or LA from Melbourne in business class. Cattle class can be hell if you get screaming children behind you for more than 2o hours.

Posted by Mr. X 12/11/2009 at 06:12 PM

22 hours in a plane sounds like a pretty good description of a time to drink. A lot. Till you cant realize you are actually in a plane, i would say:)
OK, more wishes. This time focused on the Spanish players:
-Spain to win the Davis Cup YET AGAIN. DINASTY, people. Yes, i know that's being greedy, and i dont care:)
-Ferrero to keep having some good results, and keep himself in the Top 20. Same for Hewitt. And i wouldnt mind Moya having a good run in a tournament in his return.
-Verdasco to fulfill his life-long dream and get to know his oh-so-beloved Brooke Shields:)

Posted by Diane(Atlanta) 12/11/2009 at 06:15 PM

Beth, this trip to Australia is our Christmas present to each other, something that we've wanted to for years. After this I hope to get to Wimbledon!

Posted by beth 12/11/2009 at 06:20 PM

Diane - sounds like a fabulous gift and I hope you enjoy it !

I plan on visiting Australia one of these days . It is on my list of countries I wish to see - along with Spain .

Posted by Jackie 12/11/2009 at 06:23 PM

Oof, sorry for the disappearance ... hearing some angry co-workers out ...

Posted by linz 12/11/2009 at 06:24 PM

Hey guys! So glad TT sent a tweet to remind me, haha, so I could stop by for a second!

I could come up with lots of wishes, but really, REALLY, only want one thing ever, which is of course Roddick to win a second slam. It doesn't even have to be Wimbledon anymore. Just any slam. Unfortunately, I don't really think it's going to happen, but I definitely want him to qualify for the WTFs again. That's a must.

I'd also love to see Koyla and Gonzo have more breakthroughs this year- I'd love to see both guys get to a GS final (especially Koyla!), and like G said I just want Gonzo to remain entertaining (and sexy) for another year.

I also wish for the continued improvement of Querrey and Isner.

Posted by Bobby 12/11/2009 at 06:25 PM

Nice, Jackie. My favorite is #10. I didnt' think of this, but I'd love to see it!

Posted by Jackie 12/11/2009 at 06:28 PM

OH! Forgot to update my Twitter to note the new DC ... getting on it ...

linz!!! Hope you like my Gonzo pic. :)

Posted by Jackie 12/11/2009 at 06:29 PM

Bobby! These are actually gauloises's wishes ... but I'm happy to take credit ... ;)

Mr X Fed to win the AO???

No bloody way

I have mens final tickets.I missed out on Rafa holding that Trophy this year

He owes me a favour by defending his tittle

By the way your off my Christmas card list with that predication for starters.pfft.

Posted by Mr. X 12/11/2009 at 06:31 PM

Ok, let's keep going with the wishes:
-Fedal all around. I wouldnt mind ladyjulia's wish at all. Heck, in that case, i would galdly give the Fed the AO and even Wimbledon.
-In the WTA, the Hott Woz to consolidate her good results from last year. In a Slam, unless she gest a chance like she did in the USO, a SF would probably be great.
-The Queen of Nastiness to be a factor near the top, and of course, to keep that sweet nastiness of her.
-Televised fanboy matchups. Yeah, i'm obvious, so what?
-This is naughty, and i'll admit it: Justine vs Kim in the Wimbledon final...with Kim winning it. Justine cant just back and get it. She needs some more disappoitments, a la Fed in RG.
-I also want a dramatic Slam final in the WTA, and i somehow have the feeling that they would need Shrieky for that. Shrikey vs Venus at the USO?

Just take 1/2 a sleeping tablet for your trip to Sydney

Always travel Business class

Simple.

Posted by beth 12/11/2009 at 06:32 PM

Angry co workers , Jackie
that does not sound like a good way to end a work week

hope it calms down there

Posted by linz 12/11/2009 at 06:33 PM

Jackie!!! I miss you girl =) LOVE LOVE LOVE the Gonzo pic. Made my day, as did the news that Moya is returning to tour! With Marat leaving, we need as much sexy around as possible!!

Posted by Jackie 12/11/2009 at 06:34 PM

Mr. X, you're like the Energizer Bunny! Love it!

I've been using so many exclamation points today. It's to make up for Jacko's disappearance ...

Posted by aussiemarg [Madame President in Comma Rehab for 2009] 12/11/2009 at 06:36 PM

Anyway at least with tennis being in Oz

I dont have to wake up at 1.00am anymore

I actually get to see and watch tennis in our daylight

Yipeeeeeeee

Posted by Mr. X 12/11/2009 at 06:36 PM

Come on, AM, you know i do that kind of thing only to get some more of them demerit cards:)
However, follow the whole reasoning. Wouldnt you give it to Fed if he promised to stay out of the others?
OK, on to my final wish, and kinda the one that stands above them all, tennis-wise:
-I would like the freakin' Rafa Nadal back. And with that, i mean the guy who can fight like a warrior in any match, and keep making those awesome things he proved he can do on any surface. Enough of the pale shadow dressed in his pijammas wearing clown shorts. If the good Rafa reappears, the results will come, specially on clay, and in the crown jewell, the FO. No injuries would help in that sense, but considering his shcedule, i'm not very optimistic about that.

Posted by Jackie 12/11/2009 at 06:37 PM

beth, well, at least they're not angry with me! I'm just the person they vent to. I guess the Psych degree DOES come in handy ...

linz, I miss you, too. I gotta get back out to NY soon! Wait, but are you home now? Or permanently?

Posted by linz 12/11/2009 at 06:39 PM

I'm a permanent New Yorker Jackie, though I still refer to North Carolina as "home" often, it's more just out of habit. So yes you must come visit- I already can't wait for the USOpen, it was definitely one of the highlights of my year (well, minus the actual tennis results, LOL!!)

brb, I have to venture out into the freezing cold to get my laundry. Ugh!!!

Posted by aussiemarg [Madame President in Comma Rehab for 2009] 12/11/2009 at 06:41 PM

Mr X Actually my wish for Rafa is to win the US OPEN for 2010 that will give him his career slam at just age 24 and also puts him again for making some more history

Though if he dosent reclaim his RG crown next year

I will die.I havent got over that unnamed tournament in Paris was it??? he was set to make history there.Weeps!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Posted by ladyjulia 12/11/2009 at 06:42 PM

Mr.X,

Sounds great. Four Fedal finals..Rafa FO and USO..Roger..AO and Wimby.

That's spreading it out quite nicely. And its alternate..so the fans will live too every three months.

That'll be some way to end the Fedal era. 2011 can be the year of DelPo, Muzz and Nole.

Posted by beth 12/11/2009 at 06:43 PM

Jackie - glad to hear that they are just venting and not upset with you

Posted by Arun 12/11/2009 at 06:59 PM

waves to Beth and Jackie.

Posted by gauloises (unrepentant FOOP) 12/11/2009 at 07:01 PM

The era of the FOOPs cannot be postponed forever, you know.

Not that I'm averse to some more Fedal action. This year was generally a big fail in that regard.

Posted by Mr. X 12/11/2009 at 07:03 PM

Sounds like a deal, ladyjulia:)
AM, as i said, i believe that if the pale shadow goes away and the real deal comes back, the results will follow, specially on clay. It's all about him finding his form and staying out of injuries, at least let's hope he can do it for the Slams.
Anyway, it's time for me to get some sleep, since i'm not all that similar to the Energizer Bunny after all:)
Have fun in next week's DC.
See ya, everyone.

Posted by linz 12/11/2009 at 07:04 PM

haha G, very true. I think it will be a good year for the FOOPs. I would rather Fed not win a major this year *ducks and hides*

It would be great to see some rivalries though, I thought that 2009 was a teeny bit lacking in that department.

Posted by ladyjulia 12/11/2009 at 07:04 PM

gauloises,

Only till 2011..then it will be the era of the Elf.

Posted by aussiemarg [Madame President in Comma Rehab for 2009] 12/11/2009 at 07:05 PM

I think Rafa in his career soo far has had enough injuires

Undefoot,Knees,Knees,Knees, and more Knees and just to not making it anymore boring a Ruptured Ab muscle.

Posted by ladyjulia 12/11/2009 at 07:06 PM

Not that i have any control over the future :-)

Which is a good thing for this planet.

And not that i don't like the FOOPs but Fedal are getting older. They are not 20 anymore.

While the rest are.

Posted by beth 12/11/2009 at 07:06 PM

Hi, Arun!

Posted by MikeDC 12/11/2009 at 07:07 PM

Here's my list...

1) Fed opens up a cup of whupass at one slam (pref the USO) and serves bagels and breadsticks throughout on way to title.
2) Movement toward real schedule reform and Davis/Fed Cup reform
3) Anastasia of yoga for tennis is fired. The Labrador Retriever currently responsible for programming is adopted into a good home.
4) At least one female player goes on a tear in warm-up tournaments and takes the concluding slam. The chaos gets tiresome.
5) One American woman over 5'9", and one American man under 6'3" and under age 20 emerge as potential top fivers. Sorry Melanie and John.
6) Another awesome final in the Legg Mason.
7) A tastful trophy presentation at the US Open. Hint: copy one of the other three.
8) Another tennis book like "Open" is written. I read 230 pages in one day, I'm just sayin...
8) No #1 ranked players w/o a slam. At all.
9) Koyla wins a slam (or comes heart-breakingly close... would be fitting). A sponsor gives him some money.
10)Serena and Justine in an epic 3 set slam final.

Posted by gauloises (unrepentant FOOP) 12/11/2009 at 07:07 PM

Yeah, but Delpo could be dead by 2011. I'm just saying.
