The Deuce Club, 12.11 12/11/2009 - 5:00 PM

By Jackie Roe, TW Social Director

Hi there, TWibe! Are y'all going through tennis withdrawal yet? I hope not - and I promise sticking around TW will mitigate those symptoms.

While I said I'd be sharing my ATP Award winners this week, I've decided to push it back until next Friday, considering today's Deuce Club is jam-packed as is. Plus, this means I can reminisce about the past season for another week. Anything to hold me over until the 2010 season starts up, right?

I'm still accepting TW Award nominations, so make sure to send those my way if you haven't already! Remember that these awards recognize TWibe members for their unique contributions to this community. We traditionally hand out a Poster of the Year award, so don't forget to include your picks for both male and female PotY in your submission. I had been asking that you send your ideas to my e-mail address, but it was brought to my attention that the account isn't working. While I get that sorted out, use the e-mail behind my moniker in blue instead, and I apologize if your e-mails got bounced back (please resend if that was the case!).

675202 It's that time of the year again - when all thoughts turn to the holiday season and shopping malls become our second home on the weekends as we seek to fulfill our loved ones' gift wishes. As the years pass, the holidays become less about what we want and more about what others want, and making sure they get just that. A good thing, no doubt ... but would it be so terrible if we took a timeout and allowed ourselves to make our own wish lists, like we did as kids?

Okay, so maybe that's a little silly. But not where tennis is concerned, I say!

Last year at this time, the lovely and impossibly witty gauloises came up with the idea to create tennis wish lists (click here to see the post), and as it went over so well, I figured we might as well give it a go again this year! What would you like to see happen during the 2010 tennis season?

Of course, we can't do this without our fearless wish list-making leader; I've asked gauloises to evaluate her old wish list and provide us with a new one for 2010 to get us started. Take it away, g!

Funny how the vast majority of my wishes for 2009 now appear optimistic to the point of delusion, even the ones that came true. I shall review them briefly and bitterly (it’s my métier).
1) Murray to play Federer in the final of a slam, and win. – Ha! As if. Although if it hadn’t been for that meddling Andy Roddick, or that pesky Verdasco, or that nosy butt-rubbing Gonzo, or that upstart Marin … okay, I’m depressing myself.
2) Crazy Elf to stay in the top 10. Maybe win a Masters or two, make the semis of a Slam. I'm not greedy. – Well, he still doesn’t have a Masters title, but I think we can let that slide under the circumstances.
3) A Channel Slam for Federer. (It could happen!) – And for my next trick, my race of atomic supermen will conquer the world.
4) Baby Owl to beat Rafa again, because that was fun. – Again, a bitter "ha." The closest Gilles got to beating Rafa in 2009 was having slightly less debilitating knee problems.
5) Mario to stay away from mono, jet skis, barbells, and lepers; somehow stay healthy; and make a surprise run to the Wimbledon final, where he will play in hotpants. – Once, twice and thrice "ha." Instead he missed most of the year with various ailments, cut off his hair, did a law internship, and started dressing like he’d joined a cult. But I did spend a lot of time mentally dressing him in hotpants.
6) Ernests to, for the love of God, STOP choking away matches that are entirely there for the winning, get his ranking up, and continue being adorable. – Oh, how naïve I was. If only I’d gone for more attainable goals, like remembering to attend matches, or not getting arrested for solicitation.
7) JJ to win a Slam. – This in no way happened. But at least Dinara took the heat off her a bit. Sigh.
8) Davis Cup redemption for the Argies! – All together now … ha! Although we did get a consoling Elf cuddling a shirtless Pico, which I’ll take.
9) Marin to have a banner year and make the WTF, where I will cheer him on. – Possibly making the WTF was a tad ambitious, but he did finally make a Slam quarterfinal. I demand more next year.
10) Great Britain to get a second player into the ATP and WTA top 100. (Yeah, that one's just pure madness. But I can dream.) – Great Britain's ATP No. 2: Alex Bogdanovic, #164. On the WTA side, it's a bit more promising: Elena Baltacha at #85, Katie O'Brien at #89, and Keo hanging in at #99 despite a severe knee injury. Not to mention our new junior girl's US Open champion, Heather Watson (and she's a Delpo fan too). You go, girls!
Optimistic, wasn’t I? Ah, those halcyon days back at the end of 2008, when all manner of wonderful things seemed possible. The iron bit into my soul at some point, though – during the fifth set of Verdasco’s defeat of Murray at the Australian Open, perhaps, or possibly between the first and second bagels dished out to Delpo in the AO quarterfinals. Although there’s been great stuff in 2009, I end it as a sadder, wiser woman, no longer daring to hope for the seemingly miraculous to occur, in the full knowledge that it won’t, or if it does I will have changed my mind and won’t want it any more. And hence I face 2010 with altogether more modest wishes …
90583295 1) Juan Martin del Potro to stay alive. - You know, I get that there’s probably going to be a slump. I get that the achievements of 2009 will probably not be immediately replicated. I’m prepared for the pressure to get to him and a loss of confidence and injuries and a general case of the Anas. So I’m going to stick with the basic minimum I can expect from this year and then everything else will come as a beautiful bonus. Just don’t die, Delpo. Just. Don’t. Die.
2) A healthier ATP. – On a similar theme, and I know this is an impossible dream, but wouldn’t it be lovely if we had a year where, say, none of the top 10 were forced to miss a Slam through injury or illness? Just a thought.
3) Andy Murray or Novak Djokovic to win a Slam. – I’m not asking for both. Just give me one of my guys holding up a big, shiny trophy somewhere.
4) Victoria Azarenka to crack the top five and make the semifinals of a Slam. – I still believe.
5) Marin Cilic to learn to string wins together, make the top 10 and play the WTFs. – It has to happen. He’s got Goran and Bob Brett, the ultimate tennistical (TM La Monf) odd couple, on his side!
6) One more year of the greatness of Fernando Gonzalez. – Whether it’s epic five-setters (see: vs. Gasquet at the AO, Ferrero at Wimbledon), smashing racquets and handing them to charmed spectators (vs. Tsonga at the USO), collapsing melodramatically on the court (vs. Delpo in Washington) or expressing his displeasure with a line call through the medium of his backside (vs. Soderling at the French), Gonzo can be relied upon to light up the dullest day.
7) The triumphant return of a healthy David Nalbandian. – I want the big man back, kicking butt and taking names. If said butt-kicking and name-taking could help the Argies win a Davis Cup tie or two, then so be it.
8) My girl Sabine Lisicki to crack the top 10. – I have almost no hope for this one. Managing to go uninjured for five minutes might help.
9) Mario Ancic to play, like, one actual match somewhere. – Preferably somewhere near me, so I can finally see my hero live. One more shining moment at Wimbledon? Please?!
10) A classic WTA singles final in a Slam. - Or at least one that goes three sets.

Loved the list, gauloises! I say by this time next year you'll be proclaiming yourself a prophet. (And if it happens, guess I'll be able to call myself one, too?)

Now it's time for the rest of you to share your wish lists! What do you hope to happen in the 2010 tennis season? On court or off, realistic or pie-in-the-sky, feel free to go in whatever direction you want with your lists. Can't wait to see 'em, and have a warm and restful weekend!

C Note Yes you and I are on the same page with Anna's choice of clothes

Her sunnies are nice?

She needs a stylist to take her out shopping ASAP

Posted by Jackie 12/11/2009 at 09:36 PM

sblily, are you in between jobs? Looking to leave your job?

Posted by aussiemarg [Madame President in Comma Rehab for 2009] 12/11/2009 at 09:37 PM

Arun Are you a Spy now?

Sounds exciting

Posted by sblily (Wheeeeeeeee!!!) 12/11/2009 at 09:40 PM

Um, yeah. I'm just going to stop complaining about the cold weather here in SF, as it's probably a completely different order of magnitude than the cold in Philly and Chicago. :)

Jackie - I'm working, but on a contract basis, so there's no telling when it'll end. :( I have an interview thingy on the horizon and if all goes well I'll be able to refer to myself as a ex-attorney, but still...the uncertainty sucks. Ugh.

Posted by C Note 12/11/2009 at 09:42 PM

I love that Ana can't dress. There's something adorable about a women that beautiful being a complete fashion fail. People would hate her more if she looked stunning all the time.

BTW -- Love that you got G to go through her old wishlist, Jackie. It's amazing how quickly things can change from season to season.

Posted by ericinphilly 12/11/2009 at 09:43 PM

@ jackie: i feel bad for you. i know its cold in philly but compared to chi town whew! no contest! def on my list of places never to go in winter time.
also while you are here jackie. i tried to join your facebook group awhile back but had a problem with it. it said that you need to have more than one network for the group to accept you.
maybe you can help me out?
and yes you can call me eric :)

Posted by C Note 12/11/2009 at 09:44 PM

I'm joining you, sblily. As of 1/1/10, I am an ex-attorney as well. I gave notice two months ago.

So...things are...changing.

Posted by ericinphilly 12/11/2009 at 09:46 PM

@sbilly: wow, SF is on my places to see at some point in my life lol. and yeah its def too cold here esp for me. i hate it!! would love to live in cali where its warm or moderate all year round. and close to the beaches, and all that other good stuff that i cant name right now lol.

Posted by aussiemarg [Madame President in Comma Rehab for 2009] 12/11/2009 at 09:51 PM

C Note Ok a little comprimise would help

Posted by Arun 12/11/2009 at 09:51 PM

No, AM. I'm a rescue ranger now. :-D

Posted by noa 12/11/2009 at 09:52 PM

my wishes:

Fed to win AO, beating Del Po in the final
Fed to win FO, beating Rafa in the final
Fed to win Wimby, beating Murray in the final
Fed to win USO, beating Djoko in the Final

Posted by GB 12/11/2009 at 09:52 PM

Well, my first wish is that Rafa's healthy (which given scheduling etc, prolly won't be the case for the whole year :((((((((( ), happy and plays like Rafa.

In terms of results, Rafa broke the "any gonna be amazing, no?" talk recently, when asked which he'd pick if he could only have one slam next year, and said it's Wimby all the way, so that's the slam I want him to win most.

USO would be amazing, but so hard given the 'surfrace' and timing. But then, this is a wish list, no? And RG is where a lot of his legacy lives...

On board for more Fedal finals (cause really, who knows how much longer we'll have them for, and what they've carved out together has been pretty damn amazing).

Would like Muzz and Nole to have strong performances as well.

And, what the hell, another DC for Spain!

And Rafole to play dubs together. No make that Rafole to win a dubs event --cause the ceremony would be made of all kinds of win!

And huge + 1 to poor Rafa not losing more hair.

Posted by sblily (Wheeeeeeeee!!!) 12/11/2009 at 09:52 PM

C Note - Awesome! Every time a BigLaw attorney escapes, an angel gets its wings (or something like that). What's next for you?

Eric - If you want warm or moderate year-round, SoCal is it. With the exception of a few glorious weeks each spring and fall, I hate SF weather. :(

Posted by aussiemarg [Madame President in Comma Rehab for 2009] 12/11/2009 at 09:53 PM

Arun LOL!!!!!!!

Do you wear a Floppy Hat

Cause I refuse to wear the one at Medibank

It can be a early Chrissie present for you ok.

Posted by ericinphilly 12/11/2009 at 09:53 PM

@noa; so let me guess. your a federer fan huh? :P

Posted by sblily (Wheeeeeeeee!!!) 12/11/2009 at 09:54 PM

And Rafole to play dubs together. No make that Rafole to win a dubs event --cause the ceremony would be made of all kinds of win!

*squeals* THIS.

Posted by aussiemarg [Madame President in Comma Rehab for 2009] 12/11/2009 at 09:54 PM

GB Winning the US would give Rafa his career slam

Thats my big wish for him.

Posted by Jackie 12/11/2009 at 09:55 PM

eric, sometimes FB drives me CRAZY! Try again? Or send me a personal message in FB and I can send you an invite to join the group. We'll see if that works.

Posted by ericinphilly 12/11/2009 at 09:55 PM

@sbilly: yeah socal is right up my alley, i love the heat alot more than i like the cold for sure! but i have read that SF weather can be pretty wild at times. wanna trade spots? lol

Posted by Jackie 12/11/2009 at 09:56 PM

sblily and C Note, best of luck w/your job endeavors. Keep us posted!

(C Note, what are you taking on next?)

Posted by Bobby 12/11/2009 at 09:56 PM

sblily, you are right about things being worse in Chicago unfortunately. Temps were below 0 this week. Wish I weren't speaking from experience. Well at least it makes me appreciate other weather more!

Posted by aussiemarg [Madame President in Comma Rehab for 2009] 12/11/2009 at 09:56 PM

I used to like Wimby when the grass was fast

Not anymore though, its still for cows and other grazing animals

Posted by Jackie 12/11/2009 at 09:58 PM

Thanks for contributing your wish lists, noa and GB! (noa = Fed fan, GB = Rafa fan. Right? :))

Posted by C Note 12/11/2009 at 09:58 PM

I'm so with you on that sblily. I heard a chorus of angels when I gave notice.

Not sure what's next. A lot of finding myself, figuring out what I want to do with my life, trying my best to avoid the same traps and tricks that got me to law school and BigLaw in the first place. Will probably just do contract work for the time being.

I'm very excited. 7 years was 7 years too long.

Posted by ericinphilly 12/11/2009 at 09:58 PM

@ a.m : would love to see rafa win the USO and complete the career slam. he has been getting closer and closer this last two years. lets hope his knees hold up.
@jackie: thanks alot. i will try again but if it doesnt work i will send a msg to you so you can send me invite.

Posted by sblily (Wheeeeeeeee!!!) 12/11/2009 at 10:00 PM

eric - LOL. I would DIE in Philly.* I start kvetching when the temp drops below 60 degrees.

*Not to mention I'd have to give up football fandom, 'cause no way in hell am I cheering for the Eagles.

Posted by Jackie 12/11/2009 at 10:01 PM

Bobby, are you frozen like I am?!

Posted by aussiemarg [Madame President in Comma Rehab for 2009] 12/11/2009 at 10:03 PM

C.Note and Sblily

You could always become mid wives

We are always short staffed

Especially now here in Oz,its our busy season

Posted by ericinphilly 12/11/2009 at 10:03 PM

@sbilly: yeah i know that feeling, only i would say 70 degrees for me. i dont know how i survive here. lol. def would have loved for mom to stay in cali to have me instead of coming here lol.
as for the eagles: not a football fan here but alot of ppl here agree with that now that they have Vick on the team wont cheer for them.

Posted by sblily (Wheeeeeeeee!!!) 12/11/2009 at 10:04 PM

C Note - I'm so happy for you! The uncertainty sucks, but it beats the soul-crushing misery of BigLaw any day. Trust. Life is too short to get up every morning dreading the day ahead.

Posted by TennisTarkheena (T-minus 94 DAYS!!!) 12/11/2009 at 10:04 PM

i hear you about cold weather :) I called my mom today to celebrate 40 degree temps. Monday night it was actually colder in denver than in Green Bay for the MNF game - I really don't know how often that happens - it has been ridiculously cold here recently (hi temps of like 6 degrees kind of cold - not counting windchill)

Posted by GB 12/11/2009 at 10:06 PM

Starting to feel better about having dropped out of law school this semester!

Jackie: I wonder what gave me away:)

AM: the 'careera' slam would be my big wish for Rafa, but given that Wimby is his, I'm going with Rafa getting his wish.

Posted by C Note 12/11/2009 at 10:07 PM

So much word, sblily. When you're crying in an elevator because you dread going in to work, it's time to walk away.

The future's so bright, I gotta wear shades. Well, actually I need an umbrella (literally and figuratively, sheesh the rain!) right now but you know what I mean.

Posted by ericinphilly 12/11/2009 at 10:07 PM

tennistarkeena: lol. yeah i feel for you midwest tw'ers. def places i dont need to visit in the winter. lol. and we arent even talking about snow! when we get a big one( like 8 inches or so) ppl go crazy and act like we are getting feet of snow

Posted by Bobby 12/11/2009 at 10:09 PM

Jackie, frozen is *right*. It took me a good 10 minutes to put on that last layer today.

Posted by sblily (Wheeeeeeeee!!!) 12/11/2009 at 10:09 PM

AM - Ha! I don't have the stomach for midwifery.

Eric - I was raised a Cowboys fan, so my hatred of the Eagles predates Vick by a couple of decades. :) Sports fans are so fickle, though. Let Vick throw a few TDs and that Philly bandwagon will get a lot more crowded.

Posted by ericinphilly 12/11/2009 at 10:12 PM

sbilly: very true. though most eagles fans are pretty hardcore in support no matter what happens.

Posted by aussiemarg [Madame President in Comma Rehab for 2009] 12/11/2009 at 10:14 PM

Sblily Its was just a thought

I could have used another pair of hands the other day let me tell you lol!

Posted by C Note 12/11/2009 at 10:16 PM

Fun catching up with everyone! Gotta duck out into the rain and get some food.

Hope everyone has a great weekend.

Posted by sblily (Wheeeeeeeee!!!) 12/11/2009 at 10:17 PM

Later, C Note!

GB - Well done. :)

Posted by Jackie 12/11/2009 at 10:19 PM

Later, C Note! So glad you paid us a visit this week!

We have quite a few lawyers/ex-lawyers/law students here. Interesting!

Posted by Jackie 12/11/2009 at 10:22 PM

TT, you're still here!

Gosh, the only way they cancel work/school in these parts is if it snows, like, 2 feet. Le sigh!

But? I think I'm gonna buy meself a lovely, warm puffy coat tomorrow. Should help. :)

Posted by aussiemarg [Madame President in Comma Rehab for 2009] 12/11/2009 at 10:27 PM

Jackie I need to go and buy another swimsuit

Thank goodness Summer is here in Oz

I hate and loathe the cold full stop

Posted by ericinphilly 12/11/2009 at 10:28 PM

jackie: gonna try FB again when i get home. thanks again!!

Posted by Jackie 12/11/2009 at 10:28 PM

Jealous, AM. SO jealous.

And I'm gonna try and get some pool time in this year at IW.

Posted by ericinphilly 12/11/2009 at 10:29 PM

a.m; dont gloat while some of us freeze!! lol
would love to see summer again, sigh.

Posted by Jackie 12/11/2009 at 10:30 PM

Take care, eric! Hope you'll come by again next week! (And yes, let's cross our fingers for this FB thing.)

Posted by sblily (Wheeeeeeeee!!!) 12/11/2009 at 10:31 PM

Jackie - Yep. We're like cockroaches.

Anyway, catch y'all later. Gotta go do something about my dinner situation. :)

i am also usually here at work to browse but might say hi more :)
and yes, lets hope FB works!!

Posted by Lynne (Rafalite) 12/11/2009 at 10:32 PM

I'm very curious to know why so many attorney's are leaving their professions?

Posted by ericinphilly 12/11/2009 at 10:32 PM

a.m: i would probably say the same thing in your situation lol

Posted by Jackie 12/11/2009 at 10:33 PM

LOL, sblily! Enjoy your dindin. And keep your chin up re: the job - everything will work out! Because I said so. ;)

Posted by Jackie 12/11/2009 at 10:34 PM

HAHAHAHAHA, AM! You have a sterling memory.

But that was completely accidental! And I was in jeans! (Jackie sitting outside by the pool waiting for her luggage to arrive (which didn't for another, like, 8 hours). Gilles and Carine OF COURSE come walking into the pool area, sit right next to me. Man.)

Posted by aussiemarg [Madame President in Comma Rehab for 2009] 12/11/2009 at 10:39 PM

Miss Jackie Well other things might be failing me now lol!

My memeory is still ok

Knocks On Wood

Kaftans are all the rage now,you should just wear your cozzie underneath

Be prepared for any Miss Jackie O

Posted by aussiemarg [Madame President in Comma Rehab for 2009] 12/11/2009 at 10:40 PM

By the way

I was a girl guide in my day

Be prepared was kind of our motto lol!

Posted by Jackie 12/11/2009 at 10:44 PM

AM, don't I know it! Lesson learned.

Posted by CL 12/11/2009 at 10:54 PM

Not enough Fed fans chiming in. For balance:

Fed wins THE Grand Slam - you know - the one where he wins all 4 in the same year. The year being 2010.

But I won't be greedy - I would settle for JUST that. The other guys can split up the Masters and other tournaments anyway they see fit.

(You DID say "wish", right? So I'm '"wishin' and hopin' ...") :-))

Posted by TennisTarkheena (T-minus 94 DAYS!!!) 12/11/2009 at 10:57 PM

i'm still around sporadically jackie :) and i'm SOOO with you about getting some poolside sun and heat - one of the many things i'm looking forward to about the trip is the warmth

Posted by Jackie 12/11/2009 at 10:59 PM

HA, CL! Love it. How've you been?

TT, we'll have a ball. :)

Posted by CL 12/11/2009 at 11:04 PM

Jackie - other than, at this particular moment, sleepy, I'm fine. Hope you are too.

Of course, I would happily settle for Wimby plus 1 for Fed. But I think he has higher standards than I do. ;-)

Posted by Jackie 12/11/2009 at 11:08 PM

Hmm, think it might be best if I go into 2010 without any Feddy expectations. Pretty much just hoping I won't feel the way I did last spring!

Night, CL. Great to see you (albeit briefly), as always!

Posted by crazyone 12/11/2009 at 11:09 PM

Hey everyone!

Gauloises, I forgot you wished for a Fed channel slam...*hearts Gauloises even more*

I want...

1. Fed to beat Rafa in a Grand Slam final, preferably the French. And to win one more slam.
2. Nalbandian to win a slam.
3. Roddick to win Wimbledon.
3. For the old timers--Haas, Ferrero, even Davydenko to do well.
4. PEHK to become a solid top 20 player with a grand slam SF defeating some top player (but not Fed) along the way in a spectacular match where he hits 150 winners, 100 of which are backhands.
5. Ernests Gulbis to find a brain.
6. Sorana Cirstea to play more consistently and well.
7. Justine NOT to win Wimbledon.
8. The #1 WTA player to be a slam holder at all times, so that issue doesn't even arise.
9. Venus to win Wimbledon.
10. More fun with Jada and Kim.

Posted by Jackie 12/11/2009 at 11:10 PM

crazyone!!! (How did that presentation go?)

LOL at #5.

Posted by CL 12/11/2009 at 11:12 PM

12 degrees here. Fahrenheit. Time to go to bed and maybe dream of white beaches and blue green seas. And rum drinks!! With little parasols!!!

Posted by crazyone 12/11/2009 at 11:15 PM

Jackie, it was all right, unfortunately I have more plus two papers. GRRRRR. I didn't come to grad school for classes, they're such a supreme waste of time for me at this point.

Posted by Jackie 12/11/2009 at 11:16 PM

HA, crazyone. When are your papers (and the "more") due? Will you be in hell all weekend?

Posted by Annie (Vamos Heavenly Creature) 12/11/2009 at 11:16 PM

Hey everyone!

Jackie, this is a great post. I have to go read all the wishes but first I wanted to know if you got my TW awards email?

Posted by Jackie 12/11/2009 at 11:19 PM

Hi Annie!

No, I didn't. UGHHH, another one that got sucked into the black hole. Can you please re-send to the e-mail behind my name in blue? So sorry for the inconvenience. :(

Posted by crazyone 12/11/2009 at 11:21 PM

Jackie, yeah, I'll be free only by Tuesday, and then I'll have to do all the other research work that I've been neglecting...

Posted by Jackie 12/11/2009 at 11:23 PM

Boo, crazyone. Will you at least be able to enjoy the holidays? Get some R&R?

Posted by aussiemarg [Madame President in Comma Rehab for 2009] 12/11/2009 at 11:24 PM

Jackie I just sent mine to you

Well I know its sent

Hope it gets through

Posted by Jackie 12/11/2009 at 11:26 PM

Got 'em, AM! Thank you!

Posted by M&M 12/11/2009 at 11:53 PM

My wish for 2010:
1.Rafa to beat Federer at #1 at the end of the year, win a couple of Grand Slams, preferably the French and Wimbledon.
2.Rafa to not have so much stress, that might be why he seems to be having some hair problems, and to stay healthy.
3. Safina to win a slam maybe even two of them.
4.Another DC for Spain!

Posted by Arun 12/11/2009 at 11:54 PM

Master Ace or anyone: at what time does the Henin-Petrova exho start? And also Nalby's exho?

My only wish is for the 2007 Anna Chakvetadze to come back...

Morning, everyone. :)

Great post, gauloises, made me giggle madly. :) Now, I feel I wished for far too much last year, this year I must be more circumspect... *starts thinking*

Posted by sblily (Wheeeeeeeee!!!) 12/12/2009 at 12:52 AM

Heh. I went back to last year's "Wishlist" thread and found my wishes for this year. When I was off, I was REALLY off (Gaudio and Coria becoming relevant again? Oy. *grimaces*), but some of them... do I know my crazies Serena and Ferru or what? :)

Among them:

1) Rafa wins the French and a hardcourt Slam (well, at least half of it came true)
2) Fed wins a Slam
4) Serena wins a Slam or two and continues to bring the WTF-ness with regularity.
11) Ferru, my adorable lumbering, glowering, headcase gets his groove back
12) Spain repeats as DC champs. The hero of the finals? Why, Ferru, of course. :D

*waves at jewell* Did you ever finish "Open"?

Posted by Annie (Vamos Heavenly Creature) 12/12/2009 at 12:55 AM

My wish list for 2010
Fedal final at AO, rafa wins
Rafa to win FO, beating sod along the way, playing nole in final
Rafa/Fed final at wimby, rafa victorious
Rafa/Nole final at USO, Rafa winner

If any one of these comes true I would be happy. If any two I would be thrilled.

Hi sblily! Not yet. :) Good luck on the job-sorting/certainty-finding, btw!

Posted by Jackie 12/12/2009 at 12:57 AM

HA, sblily. That last one was scary!

Morning, jewell! Still anxiously awaiting those awards. :)

M&M and ZB, thanks for sharing your wishes!

Hey Jax...getting there. Anyway you have Mr X's this year, you don't need mine. ;-)

Posted by jewell - Make tea, not war. 12/12/2009 at 01:00 AM

Not to mention all the other brilliant lists...

oh Typepad! another gold star for you! *beams*

Posted by sblily (Wheeeeeeeee!!!) 12/12/2009 at 01:01 AM

jewell - Cool. We should 'talk' when you've finished. I'm still trying to decide what I think of the book.

Jackie - I know, right? A little creepy.

Posted by Jackie 12/12/2009 at 01:04 AM

sblily, if you'd like to give a lil' book review here in the DC, you're more than welcome!

HA, jewell. Don't be so modest! You stole the show last year, I have no reason to think you wouldn't do the same this year. :)

"My tennis wish list: Rafa to win three slams, Roger one, and Murray for WTF. Rafa's knees to stop hurting.

Britain to get back into the DC world group.

Lovely Jelena J to win a slam. Sharapova to come back from injury and win a slam. And Venus and Serena to get one each. Ana for the YEC.

And, for Master Ace to get TW (or is it Tennis Magazine?) press credentials for US-Swiss DC tie. ;)"

Blimey...last year's win rate was not good, was it? :( Well, Rafa did get one...Master Ace got to see the DC tie live...could've been worse, I suppose.

Posted by jewell - Make tea, not war. 12/12/2009 at 01:08 AM

And Roger got two, I should look on that as a bonus. ;-) Serena didn't do so badly either, did she?

and unexpectedly good things did happen.

*decides to stop whining*

Posted by Jackie 12/12/2009 at 01:09 AM

Isn't it funny/weird to look back at what we wanted a year ago?

And wait, Rafa got his, Roger got his, Masha came back and did well (though not a Slam, obviously), Rena won a Slam, MA went to the DC. When you look at it like that, you did really well! :)

Posted by Jackie 12/12/2009 at 01:10 AM

Oh, you beat me to it. ;)

Posted by sblily (Wheeeeeeeee!!!) 12/12/2009 at 01:12 AM

Jackie - Sure, if "Andre? Meh." can be a book review. :)

Nah, I finished the book a few days ago, and I'm not quite sure what to make of it. It left me unsettled, and not in the "ZOMG, Andre lied to us! He really hated tennis!" sense.

Posted by sblily (Wheeeeeeeee!!!) 12/12/2009 at 01:13 AM

jewell - I swear, you have the fastest silver lining recognition system of anyone I "know." LOL

Posted by Arun 12/12/2009 at 01:15 AM

"fastest silver lining recognition system"

Miss Jackie I would love to have a post on Andre's book

I have always been a fan

It left me sad in ways

Arun Did you find out the times for the expo?

Posted by Annie (Vamos Heavenly Creature) 12/12/2009 at 01:20 AM

Count me in on the Open book group if you decide to go with it. I think the discussion would be a good one.

Posted by jewell - Make tea, not war. 12/12/2009 at 01:20 AM

It's a date, sblily. :)

Morning, Annie, I could get behind that wish list. :)

This year's:

1) Rafa to be uninjured and healthy the whole year and to win a slam or two. Or three or four, I mean, I wouldn't complain...but one would be nice. I am not so fussed about it being the USO since I figure he's already won one on each of the three surfaces.
2) Murray to win a slam. Please.
3) Scaling back...Britain to beat Lithuania in the upcoming DC division 9713 match. HAHAHAHAHA.
4) Nalby to come back as a contender.
5) Djokovic to peak at the correct moments.
6) Wozniacki to be #1 without winning a slam.
7) JJ to win a slam (on the road to heartbreak with that one...sigh)
8) Ana to be a contender again.
9) for lots of good, hard-fought matches in ATP AND WTA, and respect for all players on all tours.
10) No more Fedal wars!

Posted by aussiemarg [Madame President in Comma Rehab for 2009] 12/12/2009 at 01:21 AM

If Rafa won the US OPEN he gets his career slam for goodness sakes lol!

Posted by Arun 12/12/2009 at 01:22 AM
