Virtual Holiday Party, 2009 12/30/2009 - 5:00 PM

By Jackie Roe, TW Social Director

Hi there, come on in! So glad to see you - and you brought some sweets, I see. Go ahead and put them in the kitchen with the rest of the holiday treats.

A bunch of folks are already here, helping me set up shop. So far we have quite the spread: Jenni whipped up a decadent rum cake, and I made the egg nog, in addition to my signature Bûche de Noël. jewell can't come, but she sent over some homemade tennis player-shaped cookies and of course, tea. Doesn't quite make up for her absence, but we'll take it!

What else ... there's Bobby's white chocolate peppermint martini fixins and Mr. X's Spanish cider. And CL is adding to the bar; I see she has some scotch and a beer with Sam's name on it. (Think some of y'all ought to plan to stay put overnight.)

Hmm, there's nothing for me to drink here ... teetotaling and holiday parties really don't mix!

Lleytsie just came in a few seconds ago and brought with him the most fantastic gift - our playlist for the evening! What makes this so special is that it's a compilation of our selections from last summer's TW Music Festival. I'm grateful to Lleytsie for putting this together and even more excited to experience the TWibe's favorite tunes again. To listen, click here, select "Play All Videos," and enjoy!

As Pete noted at last year's party, this shindig is dog-friendly, smoker-friendly (that oughta please Ferru) and just-about-everything friendly, so make yourselves at home and have fun!

See NP has already started.

NP,
Since my day job bans streaming, what was the Big 4 plus Juan Martin greatest performance along with Enberg? Kobe bailed the Lakers out last night against the Warriors.

Jackie,

Thank you very much for inviting me to your party. Unfortunately I have to leave early because I'm tired and I need my beauty sleep for tomorrow. I'm sure it will be a total success.

All the best wishes to everyone at TW (including the court jester).

I bring a video of my house and the Dutch national beverage:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=S1ZZreXEqSY

Posted by Master Ace 12/30/2009 at 05:22 PM

My above post is to remind all partygoers that tennis starts tomorrow morning(evening in Aussie land). Therefore, last day of TWibe offseason caps off with the party.

Posted by NP 12/30/2009 at 05:22 PM

Jax, I try.

MA, will reveal later. Don't wanna ruin the surprises. And I did see Kobe scored a season-high 44 pts and 11 assists last nite. Still only 2-6 from the arc, though. I blame his fingers.

Posted by TennisTarkheena (T-minus 85 DAYS!!!) 12/30/2009 at 05:22 PM

been running ALL day but glad to have arrived :) my kitten says hi too and will beg for food

Posted by Master Ace 12/30/2009 at 05:23 PM

Jackie,
I will have to step out in a few minutes but will return. Hopefully, the party will be advertised on tennis.com home page.

Posted by Jackie 12/30/2009 at 05:24 PM

Aw, zenggi, so glad you popped in, if even for a moment! Have a good night. :)

Posted by Mr. X 12/30/2009 at 05:25 PM

Hey, is there a party going on in here? Hi, Jackie! Just a comment: i dont think the new format will help this post, since you cant see it from the main page at Tennis.com, where TW is stuck at the "Titans of the luge" blog.
NP, i'm speechless. Really. At least, you could have put the Delpo match for Nadal, instead of THAT.
By the way, if that Swedish guy of that clip is actually coming to the party, i may have "something" prepared for him:)
Getting prepared to start offering some of that cider (which by the way, is specific from my region, Asturias). I will comment more on this later, but it's quite the peculiar beverage.

Posted by Jackie 12/30/2009 at 05:25 PM

TT! YOU MADE IT!

And your kitten! What's his? her? name? And as I said above, this party is pet-friendly. :)

Posted by Aussiemarg,Madame President,Summer in Oz Tennis 12/30/2009 at 05:26 PM

Thanks soo much Miss Jackie, may I say you look fab too dear

yes thank goodness for mobile home hairdressers and there new age No Friz products

heven help anyone that dare pushes me into the pool

do that at your own peril

Posted by Jackie 12/30/2009 at 05:26 PM

I have to try some of this cider, Mr. X. Nervous ...

I'll talk to Pete about making sure we have a big ol' sign in front about the party.

Posted by Master Ace 12/30/2009 at 05:28 PM

NP,
Quit complaining as Kobe was a perfect 16 from the line and had 11 "dimes" to boot.

Mr. X,
Where is the Queen of Nastiness and Hott Wozz?

Posted by NP 12/30/2009 at 05:28 PM

Mr. X, but that is his best performance of the year.

Posted by Aussiemarg,Madame President,Summer in Oz Tennis 12/30/2009 at 05:29 PM

Thanks Master Ace,Happy New Year to you

Cant wait for the tennis to start here in Australia

No more getting up at 1.00am to watch tennis o/seas

Well for a little while anyway

Posted by zenggi 12/30/2009 at 05:29 PM

Mr. X,

A mí me gusta la sidra. (I like cider)

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LskNg8bYqMM&NR=1

Posted by Mr. X 12/30/2009 at 05:30 PM

Did i read pool party? Er, AM, please inform when the WTA players appear, if you dont mind.
So, tennis is coming back? Well, i dont know if i'll be able to catch some of the action tomorrow. Certainly not on the 1st, so i wont be able to watch Nadal's first match. Dont really know how i feel about that yet:)

Posted by Jackie 12/30/2009 at 05:32 PM

MA, I didn't realize this was a end-of-the-offseason party ... that worked out well! :)

Posted by Aussiemarg,Madame President,Summer in Oz Tennis 12/30/2009 at 05:32 PM

Good grief I say a Pool

Not a Olympic size one

Who did this????

Glares at the Woodies

I see that spunk Eamon Sullivan has turned up,a Aussie swimmer and also winner of our Master Chef series here in Oz,well see he can swim and cook.He can be in charge of the Barbie and save people if they drown in that over the top pool

Posted by Jackie 12/30/2009 at 05:33 PM

Er, do I have to change into a two-piece now?

Posted by Master Ace 12/30/2009 at 05:34 PM

Mr.X.,
Wonder why you will miss Rafael match at noon local time on 1/1/10? Date with Hott Wozz?

Jackie,
Indeed, this last offseason day for TWibe worked out well as this offseason has been a drag. However, I could not blame posters for doing real life activites and taking a break to be charged for 2010.

Posted by TennisTarkheena (T-minus 85 DAYS!!!) 12/30/2009 at 05:35 PM

Jackie her name is Mokomoko (but I just call her moko) Also I got my haircut specially for tonight :) (apparently I look like Taylor Swift so...) Also I bring Wine from Colorado it is called Prairie Dog Blush (haven't tried it yet, but i'm excited and I love the name)

Posted by Mr. X 12/30/2009 at 05:38 PM

I'm wondering the same thing, Master Ace. Hopefully, they'll arrive:)
As the MC of the AO trophy ceremony would say, "In the meantime...", i've been in that building, zenggi. Although that kind of cider is more similar to champagne, actually, and used more in Christmas. It's good, sure, but i was referring more to the one that is served is "sidrerias" (cider bars) all over Asturias the whole year.
Dont worry, Jackie. Trying one glass wont get you drunk, AT ALL. Watch this video, and the amount that is actually in the glass. And yes, it is always served that way, although usually with just one glass. That guy must be a pro.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=drniw1KZFUI&feature=related

NP, you certainly mean it was the best performance of said Swedish guy.

Posted by Bobby 12/30/2009 at 05:38 PM

Hi, Jackie & TWibe. These white chocolate peppermint martinis sure are strong. I made them for everyone, but they're just sitting here. Am I going to have to drink them all? Because I will...

Posted by beth 12/30/2009 at 05:38 PM

HI! I am here and ready to party
Everything and everyone looks great !
jackie - very clever setting this up to coincide as a kickoff party to the new tennis year

Posted by NP 12/30/2009 at 05:39 PM

I know, MA. I just want him to perform at his full potential. U know he's better than this from downtown.

Posted by Jackie 12/30/2009 at 05:39 PM

Oh, TT, how fabulous! I knew something looked different. :)

And Eamon Sullivan - I know that name! Gotta get me an autograph.

Posted by Annie (Vamos Heavenly Creature) 12/30/2009 at 05:39 PM

Hey everybody! Lleytsie, thanks so much for compiling that playlist. WOW. It's awesome in it's sheer variety of everything. Is my "Amish Paradise" in there or do song parodies not count? ;)

Jackie, i join you in the teetotaling. there aren't many occasions when I wish I could imbibe but just to try Bobby's white chocolate peppermint martini...

Well, here's to our last night of the off-season. have to saw it was a brief one. Soooo glad tennis is back!

Posted by Aussiemarg,Madame President,Summer in Oz Tennis 12/30/2009 at 05:40 PM

just making a quick check list

Deck chairs, lounges, fly and insect spray, sun screen

Prawns,steaks,snags,salada

15 kegs of beer?????????????????

2 bottles of vintage french champagne

methinks something gone amiss big time?

Posted by Aussiemarg,Madame President,Summer in Oz Tennis 12/30/2009 at 05:41 PM

Hi Beth, you look you fab self as usual

Posted by TennisTarkheena (T-minus 85 DAYS!!!) 12/30/2009 at 05:42 PM

AM I am wearing my Banana yellow pumps just for you :) I will be on your deck enjoying the sunshine and my cat will be after the steaks

Posted by Mr. X 12/30/2009 at 05:43 PM

Well, Master Ace, let's just say that on Jan. 1st, i usually arrive home around 10 AM after being out since midnight, and the match starts at noon over here. So, yeah, i dont know which case is less likely: me being able to stay awake for around 4 more hours after arriving home (nah, that's simply impossible), or me getting back up after sleeping just a couple of hours (is there a stronger word then "impossible"?). So, there you go:)

By the way, i heard rumours that not only tennis players are attending this party, but other "athletes". I received a strange message asking if there would be many blondes at the party. It was signed with what looked like a tiger's footprint:)

Posted by Bobby 12/30/2009 at 05:43 PM

Annie, don't fret. I can replace one good ingredient (vodka) with another even better one (white chocolate). And you're all set.

Posted by Jackie 12/30/2009 at 05:44 PM

Bobby, I might have to try JUST a sip ...

And then a sip of the cider ...

Y'all are evil. ;)

BETH! Dressed to the nines! Love it.

Posted by beth 12/30/2009 at 05:45 PM

thanks , AM
and I must say - you look simply mahvelous , as well

What is the kitten's name , TT ?

Bobby - great martinis !

Posted by NP 12/30/2009 at 05:45 PM

Mr. X, I have no clue what you're talking about.

Posted by zenggi 12/30/2009 at 05:45 PM

Jackie,

Did you invite Marat?. He isn't playing in Hong Kong, and I'd love to see him again. Anytime, anywhere.
And if you invite Yevgeny (Kafelnikov) he can teach us Texas hold'em now that he has turned pro in poker.

Posted by Annie (Vamos Heavenly Creature) 12/30/2009 at 05:45 PM

I'm sitting by a roaring fire and you guys are talking bikinis? If the pool is heated to 100 F then i'll jump in but otherwise i'll have to pass. I will be roasting marshmallows for anyone who wants one. delicious accompaniment to the cider.

Posted by Aussiemarg,Madame President,Summer in Oz Tennis 12/30/2009 at 05:46 PM

Ahhhhhhh The Little Aussie Battler has turned up

*faints* he has brought Bec?

thanks, Jackie
love that you are going to try a virtual martini
You have succeeded where we failed to corrupt Miss Jackie in IW , Bobby
but only virtually
( less of a headache that way )

BTW- I shall tell Tiger that he is gonna have to change his "animal name " to Cheetah
blonde , I may be - but not interested in that hound dog

Posted by Aussiemarg,Madame President,Summer in Oz Tennis 12/30/2009 at 05:48 PM

TT I just adore your shoes

You know out motto

Shoe Love is True Love

Please relax on the deck chairs with your adorable cat, also have a word to Bec she needs all the fashion tips she can get.

Posted by Syd 12/30/2009 at 05:48 PM

Howdy Jax and Twibe;

Jewell's cookies look fab, but I'm sticking with the peppermint tini.

Posted by TennisTarkheena (T-minus 85 DAYS!!!) 12/30/2009 at 05:49 PM

Beth - just posted on your FB status :) And her name is moko and she begs w/ these cute little white-fur lined eyes and it is just SOOO adorable. Oh and she can't meow, she just chirps :D Does Missie have to go back to Texas for a few days before the game or can she just stay in Cali?

Posted by Jackie 12/30/2009 at 05:50 PM

zenggi, you bet they're invited! They'll be fashionably late, I'm sure.

Welcome, malimeda!

Posted by Bobby 12/30/2009 at 05:51 PM

Beth, if I corrupted Jackie, how come I'm sitting here drinking my drink and hers? :) Yup, definitely agree that virtual hangovers are far better than the real thing.

Posted by Jackie 12/30/2009 at 05:51 PM

LOL, "shoe love is true love." New motto.

SYD!!! So glad you came! And have as muuuuch as you like. :)

Posted by Annie (Vamos Heavenly Creature) 12/30/2009 at 05:51 PM

TT- white-fur lined eyes...i think i'm in love..that sounds so unusual. we may need a pic.

Posted by Jackie 12/30/2009 at 05:52 PM

Hey guys, I have to run out and grab some more snacks. You all are animals! Be back in a jif. Party on!

Posted by Jackie 12/30/2009 at 05:54 PM

Also ... don't forget about the ol' mistletoe ...

Posted by Annie (Vamos Heavenly Creature) 12/30/2009 at 05:54 PM

Jackie, we have to be good in IW, k? out in the desert under the stars, oof it's gonna be tempting to try, oh i don't know, all kinds of things.

Bec is here? Is that her over there? I'm trying to get up the courage to bum a butt from ferru.

Posted by Mr. X 12/30/2009 at 05:56 PM

I can see all the Aussies in AM's pool party reacting to all this beer the way the guys in zenggi's clip do:)
NP, you mean when i referred to the Swedish guy? You really dont know?

By the way, sorry about the "I" post. Wrong key.

So, Rusty is here? Cool, i always liked him. By the end of the night, we must do some of those "C'mon"s, but the wildest type. You know, with the "hand pointing to the eyes" thing:)

Dont worry about the cider, Jackie. Didnt you watch the clip i posted? It's barely the bottom of the glass.

Posted by Jackie 12/30/2009 at 05:57 PM

I did see the clip, Mr. X. Was that you? ;)

Man, soooo hard to leave y'all ...

Posted by Aussiemarg,Madame President,Summer in Oz Tennis 12/30/2009 at 05:57 PM

Annie I thought you were giving up?

Put on your swim suit and join people in the pool

My oh my Eamon Sulivan looks great in his speedos

Where is Mina she is totally in love with Eamon, mmmmmmm

Posted by Annie (Vamos Heavenly Creature) 12/30/2009 at 05:59 PM

malimeda, that cartoon is wonderful. Rafa's flash is even doing a little picking. very cute.

Posted by Jackie 12/30/2009 at 06:00 PM

Annie, don't you worry! And I'm glad I'm not the only one downing water here; maybe you can help me drive folks home tonight ... ;)

Posted by Jackie 12/30/2009 at 06:00 PM

Okay, for reals, gettin' in my car. BE BACK!

Oh, doorbell! Will someone get that???

Posted by Aussiemarg,Madame President,Summer in Oz Tennis 12/30/2009 at 06:01 PM

Oh no its The Brat aka Bernard Tomic and his Dad

Lleyton and him arent talking since Wimby

I need all round good guy and aussie legend Pat Rafter, who at 36 still models Bonds Undies to intervene

or second thoughts I will just pump more beer into Lleyton

Bec can always carry him home

Posted by rafadoc 12/30/2009 at 06:02 PM

Greetings Everyone! I am dropping off my hors d'oeuvres for you all to enjoy now. I have a meeting and will be back later. :)

Oh, and here are some fresh virgin strawberry daiquiris for Jackie and Annie. (I am intentionally sucking up because I will need forgiveness for a lampshade moment later, I am sure *wink wink*)

Have fun and see you soon!

Posted by NP 12/30/2009 at 06:02 PM

Mr. X, I was playing dumb.

Posted by Mr. X 12/30/2009 at 06:02 PM

LOL at "Cheetah".
I'll have some of that martini, Bobby. It's true that hungovers are much less troubling when they are virtual. The real deal will come on Jan. 1st, and that wont be as easy to handle:)
May i offer you some of my cider? By the way, the Serena post is hilarious.

Posted by Annie (Vamos Heavenly Creature) 12/30/2009 at 06:03 PM

AM, I have cut way back and am on the way to giving up. i swear. Speaking of speedos, I watched an early Mel Gibson movie over the holiday called "Tim." Written by Colleen McCullough. I'm sure you know it. Nice scene of the young Mel in speedos romping on the beach with his much older love interest.

TT - your kitten sounds darling
and yes Missie gets to be here for the game - not back in school until the 18th - they have a really , really long break .
But I am not complaining

Bobby - I will help you with those martinis - I do love a good one , and I have never had a peppermint one
sounds very festive !

Posted by zenggi 12/30/2009 at 06:04 PM

Mr. X,

I like also more the real sidra from sidrerías.

NP, you say that a lot lately. OK, twice in two days. I think it's a lot.

Posted by Annie (Vamos Heavenly Creature) 12/30/2009 at 06:06 PM

I'm happy to be a designated driver tonight. no prob. Just nobody get sick in my car!

Posted by Bobby 12/30/2009 at 06:06 PM

Mr. X, if you're willing to brave the Chicago temps, that white chocolate peppermint martini is all yours. As for the Serena piece, I'm glad you liked it. I laughed out loud many times going through all those pressers again. Those pressers really are the gift that keeps on giving.

Posted by Mr. X 12/30/2009 at 06:07 PM

I thought you might be, NP, but with you, it's always hard to tell. Anyway, that first post was truly harsh.
No, that's not me, Jackie. I mean, that guy must be a pro or something. I can serve it that way, but only with one glass, not three.

AM, who is this Eamon person, and more importantly, where are the WTA players?:)

So Tomic is there? I'm having an idea...gotta go have a chat with Rusty.

Posted by Aussiemarg,Madame President,Summer in Oz Tennis 12/30/2009 at 06:07 PM

Annie I adored Tim,did you know that Colleen is going blind and has to under go brain surgery. She is trying to finish her last book before having this operation. So sad.I am a big fan of hers.

Keep the good work up of cutting down on the ciggies

I know you can do it

Posted by Annie (Vamos Heavenly Creature) 12/30/2009 at 06:07 PM

beth, is missie sleeping alot? I can't get my son out of bed.

Posted by Aussiemarg,Madame President,Summer in Oz Tennis 12/30/2009 at 06:10 PM

Mr X Eamon Sullivan is a aussie olympic swimmer, thats the reason we have a olympic size swimming pool

he is a show off,now doing laps in the pool

Where he should be starting up the barbie

Dont worry the WTA girls wont be too far off

Posted by Mr. X 12/30/2009 at 06:10 PM

I think it might be much colder in Chicago than here in the north of Spain, Bobby, but i'll have nonetheless. Thank G-d this is a virtual party. For real, mixing this cider with other beverages can be dangerous.

Posted by Annie (Vamos Heavenly Creature) 12/30/2009 at 06:11 PM

ooh, Mr.X is going to broker a peace between tomic and rusty. this could be interesting.

AM, thanks for the encouragement. hubby put patches in my stocking! that is so sad about Colleen. I googled her and she lives on a remote island somewhere off Oz. Of course she can still write even if she loses her sight. Just hope she gets through the brain surgery.

Posted by Aussiemarg,Madame President,Summer in Oz Tennis 12/30/2009 at 06:14 PM

Mr X I will hand you a ladder cause Tomic stands at 194cm he might not hear you

also he is a cold Aussie beer

watch out you nearly bumped into Pat

Posted by beth 12/30/2009 at 06:14 PM

Annie - no , she has not been sleeping that much
She has been getting up to go to Pilates with me
shocking as that may seem - she has been getting up pretty early

now - over the next few days , with New Year's festivities and the arrival of the Texas contingent for the BCS bowl
that may all change

ok - I have to dash out - gonna pick up some virtual champagne and snacks
be back in a bit

Posted by Mr. X 12/30/2009 at 06:15 PM

Who said anything about "peace", Annie?:)
Actually, i'll wait till Lleyton has had a couple more beers:)

rafadoc: LOL, the daquiri is delish. thank you! One fun thing about not drinking (besides no hangovers) is being able to inform everyone about what happened the night before. when you broke your heel, fell in the pool, or put said lampshade on head...

Well, well...am I the first of the Philly contingent to arrive? Where's Sam? And I'm so sorry that I have to drink and run off to my BFF's birthday party. But to add to the libations, I've brought a batch of my own special (and delicious and powerful) rum punch, a bottle of Barbados' best Mt Gay rum for those who like their rum straight, and a couple bottles of sparkling cider for Jackie and other teetotalers.

Eamon is trying to show off before the tennis players arrive, cos he knows i won't leave Rafa's side when he gets here...

Posted by Arun 12/30/2009 at 06:28 PM

hi and bye, Ruth. Thanks for the sparkling cider.
Bottoms up, Twibe.
