Babe
Actually it is those tentative approach shots that did Fed in. Besides the service returns. He just keep up with rallies no more. He either pulls the trigger too soon or UFEs out right away. At times hard to watch. Let's he is still warming up...and leave it at that. |

That's what I was expecting last set -- Rog getting the break after sketchy serving from Berdych. Poor 1st serve % is the thing I'd worry about for Berdy. |

"as a native of Taipei (TPE), which is the Chinese name for the place the natives (including Lu) prefer to call Taiwan"
Not exactly. "Taipei" is the capital city of Taiwan. "Taiwan" is the name of the entire island/country. Technically, both the PRC and the ROC (Republic of China) (and the US, I might add) officially consider Taiwan to be a province of China, though they disagree about who the legitimate ruling government is. These days this is mostly a fiction only vaguely acknowledged in Taiwan. Also, with the GMD (Nationalist Party) back in power, relations between Taiwan and the PRC are the best they have been in 60 years. They signed a historic trade agreement just days ago. |

Great doubles match going on, Vesnina and Vera up a break, whodathunkit? Might put Serena in a funk if She and Vee lose.
Berdych drops the early service game, damn.
Nole comfortably ahead.
As long as Murray doesn't settle back into passive land he should beat Tsonga comfortably.
Soderling Rafa should be the real barn burner. Here's hoping Sod comes in behind his attacking shots and take balls out of the air. |

Fed really needs to worry about his 1st serve %, too -- not because it's particularly poor, but I'd be interested to see what % of 2nd serve points he's winning. I'm guessing it's not great. |

Or,
Agreed, generally, about Berdy. But every other or third service game of his, his serve seems to go wonky. Fed couldn't capitalize in the 1st set, but it's been the difference so far in this one. |

Roger took the one chance he had, which is important, but Birdy is outplaying him from the baseline even in set number 2, which is begining to be trend. How many FH winners does Roger have? Can't be many. |

the real question for me really, is not why fed is slipping....its very obvious in EVERY MATCH that he cant play like before....how much down he is, is debatable from match to match....but the real question is...how is this guy still hanging around with the big guns without getting blown completely out of it!
i.e. what in his game is still sustaining and giving him a toehold and not fall completely off the cliff ! |

High fives sokol, the girls did it. Vesnina you star, you own the court today. She did not lose her serve at all. As Wally Masur commented she played a very tactful game. I really like Vera in doubles, no towel over her head and smiling. Vesnina is loving it, signing autographs and smiling. |
