Miami Crisis Center Day 7 - Overflow 2
Posted 03/31/2009 @ 10 :59 AM

Hi all - please keep talking tennis here, once the comment numbers have reached 500 (over 5 pages) on the previous match-call thread. If extra overflows are needed, they'll be posted here on the overflow blog, to be accessed via links at the top and bottom of this post.

Because of the way that TypePad has been behaving, with comments initially failing to be posted after the 500-comment mark, it will quite often happen that the post will close down before you see a warning. If the post is closed down in mid-conversation near the critical point for the software, it probably means that a new overflow is available.

honestly, no idea, MA.

very late comment here coz I didn’t pay attention the overflow comment but Rosangel thank you so much for this—I’m a semi lurker but recently just started to visit this site everyday from work or at home

anyway im so happy for rafa-- managing yet again to survive despite not playing his best.. i was reading his comments on his play with Stan and was very inspired of what he said-- i really expected him to nag and complain how bad he was playing as evident of his constant 'grunt look' during the match but my oh my all he could say is that he is happy to win and that he thought he improvde-- I think that’s mental genius approach right there-- i dont think he was complaining about his game at all--- im sure deep inside he is-- but he knows too well that there is nothing he could do but to accept that you can't play ur best (as steve tignor depicts him as the master of acceptance)at all times but what's more important is finding ways to win.. and he did-- i think he is constantly trying to stay positive in spite his challenges to boost his confidence and hopefully will find his A game through the process./.... he scares the bejeeeeesuzz out of me in every game..but i still have faith that he can win this tournament because he still fights to believe that he can!!! VAMOS RAFA

maedel -- I may DVR it, so I can mentally prepare for the Fed match. It just depends on how frazzled I'm feeling. Fed takes up far too much mental energy these days. I am certain that Little Cherry thinks her mother is completely nuts.

Quite a day yesterday, with Rafa fans being nicer to Fed than the Fed fans, and vice versa.

Stan is so workman like. No flash at all, just a calmly going about his business.

One of the commentators on TTC (who were for the most part very annoying) mentioned that Stan taking some pace off of the serve out wide to Rafa's backhand, was producing a weaker return because Nadal couldn't feed off the speed. I wonder if we'll see this approach from Fed at their next meeting.

whoaaaaaaa. Mirza/Chuang.
am sad for the spanish ladies. but this is so awesome.
6-3 7-6(4)

aww no, VRP/AMG lost their doubs match :(

I cannot wait until tennis gets away from Fox Sports/Comcast. Their coverage is atrocious! Out here in the San Francisco Bay Area, instead of watching tennis, I had to watch the SJ Sharks and the GS Warriors. Okay the Sharks are pretty good, but the Warriors for heaven's sake? In fact, even once, instead of showing the #1 player in the world play his match (I know, I know he's not American), they showed PAID PROGRAMMING!! The shlocky Sham-Wow guy selling some sort of violent chopping device.

AAAUUUGGGHHH!!

LL

Someone else mentioned this earlier and I had the same thought. Is Boris Becker helping Fed at Miami and maybe the FO?

I would be okay with that!

*clicking her heels three times*

there's no place like ESPN2
there's no place like ESPN2
there's no place like ESPN2

LL

LL - Amen. To add to your list of complaints, FSN/C don't even honor their published programming schedules when it comes to tennis. Pffft. HATE.

Meh. Don't even get me started on the creepy ShamWow guy. Still traumatized from seeing his mug shot.

I was forced to watch women's softball the other night waiting on tennis. ugh.

sic @7.25 AM: >>"I'll have more to say about Rafa after I actually see the match, judging from the comments many think he's lost his form from IW.">>
I personally feel that Rafa was never fluent(w.r.t AO 09 form) even in IW starting from the 3rd round. He was still struggling with a lot of UFE'. Every time he decided to go for it, he was missing a lot. The shanked/overhit fhs in Roddick's SF match were shocking. Perhaps he's trying to transition to be a more offensive player or discovering this happy medium b/w attack and defense.

Whatever the reason, Rafa needs some rest. A break from the tour. He may be fine physically, but it's too much of a mental effort to grind out close matches day in day out. Sooner or later, the percentages/law of averages would catch up with him. I would rather he loose now, than on a key GrandSlam matchup.

spacenoxx (Rafa - Please take it easy and let the clowns fight for Miami) -- lol! Hopefully Rafa is reading this :)

Li Na with the early break? Watch out, Serena will be annoyed and will try to get it back ;-)

Come on, Li Na, I want another upset :-)

wow, li na's off to a decent start against ReRe!

still have no stream tho, sb'ing annoys me!

if anyone has a stream to Serena-Li Na match, please, hellp!!

sblily - You tell it sister!! isn't there something called truth in advertising?

I did hear that guy got a DUI.

Had a recent class taught by one of the top executives at FSN Bay Area and I actually summoned up the cajones to ask/complain about tennis coverage (remembering from last year). And he basically told me (in so many words)..."It's tennis, whatever."

LL

another break? really? Go, Li Na!

For Faulk's sake Serena, where are you? Down 0-4, hasn't held serve, now a DF. Who is this imposter?

ooooh no serena, wake up please!!!!! the WTA needs you to win this tourney- I love Dina, but she can't become #1 like this...

another break, I'm in shock...
5-0 and Li Na is serving for the set after about 15 minutes on the court. What's wrong with Serena?

New Crisis Center is up with Li leading 5-0

Thanks for the heads up MA

LL - A DUI? Maybe, but I was thinking about the arrest last week for beating up a hooker. http://tinyurl.com/crql3l Yeesh.

WTHIGOW Serena? Ugh. Is Li Na whipping her, or is this another ReRe UFE fest?

the most frustrating thing is that we can't see it. :-((

Maybe someone is watching the match? Then, please, describe how Serena looks, is she injured? having a bad day on the court?

looks like she's waking up, she's fighting to stay in the set

Frances at 04/01/2009 @ 12:06 PM:

I quite agree with you, Nadal's attitude is amazing. Though we fans might have some complaints about his play last night, he himself thinks positively about it. His mindset is that of the eternal learner. Aside from that, he projects this purity of thought and acceptance of things going on around him. Like last night. I notice that Wawrinka was taking his own sweet time on his own serves, but at one point where he was under pressure, he approached the umpire, don't know why, but probably to ask the umpire about Nadal's time on his serve, or to throw Rafa off. To me, that came off as a meanie by Stan. The ump was not impressed. Rafa did not seem bothered by it. Now if that were another player, pretty sure there'll be momentary murder in their heads.

Looking like Serena is going to be beaten by Na Li.
