Oudin

Please continue your tennis-related conversations here.

Congratulations to Melanie Oudin on progressing to the fourth round with a win over sixth seed Jelena Jankovic.

Hate to see a player lose such a match on a double fault.

Good to see Juanqui playing solid tennis again.

As far as NBC not showing this match, it is boneheaded moves like this, repeated numerous times at many levels, that has been leading the television broadcasting business in the United States down the drain.

And as long as the leading media outlets in the United States are going to be such idiots with respect to tennis coverage, its quite appropriate that much smaller countries, such as Switzerland, Spain, and Compton, are wiping up the United States on the tennis courts.

Well, I'm out of suicide. I was late to put my pick, and it was between the Murray match and the Gonzo match. Went with Gonzo, pity.

Happy for JCF.

"If the SFs are Hewitt vs. Ferrero and Haas vs. Federer, we'll be rocking it like it's 2004."

That would be awesome.

Hmmm... this is really interesting. while I was thinking it was just the WTA that had quite a number of old guard brigade still in the round of 16, it just occurred to me that the same is sort of happening with the ATP with Federer, Roddick, Hewitt, Haas, JCF, Verdasco (he is 26 after all), Ivo (the serving genius :), and Stephanek. So the pattern is pretty much the same like the WTA.

On the women's side, there are five unseeded players in the round of 16 while on the ATP side there are three. All the seeds left in the WTA are in the top twenty with seeds 1, 2, 3, and 4 still alive and well in the draw. For the ATP the seeds left span the top 29 with seeds 2, 3, 4 still alive and well.

Monday should be interesting and unfortunately, I shall miss most of the matches due to being in transit to work and Monday meetings *sigh*

Bad luck Gonzo you tried hard

Well done Ferrero great play, you did hang tough throughout the match.

Gonzo does have the coolest way to carry his raquets--shaft of one through the throats of the others. :)

avid sports fan, the non seeded players on the men's side have three slams between them. Only Dudi Sela is both non seeded and inexperienced in slams.

And I only see 4 non seeded female players: Lisicki, Oudin, Vesnina, Hantuchova.

LOL. Federer's era doesn't look so weak this week, eh? Jajaja. Unfortunately for him, you're a rival for Fed only if you have a winning H2H against him

I am quite surprised to see Danni H still in the draw

Federer, Roddick, Hewitt, Haas, and JCF.....all these old 'new balls' still alive (well, can't say Roger surprised me!) Too bad marat left the party early:(

c1 - you missed Schiavone. And true that Hewitt and JCF have slams but I was not talking in terms of slam inexperience/experience just based on the seeds numbers.

JCF is really having quite a grass season- semis and Queen's and second week at W with a decent chance to make his second quarterfinal at Wimbledon.

I think Moya started the trend somewhat with his AO final but I think JCF deserves more credit than he gets for really being a tennis player from Spain that was an important factor in Spain become much better on all surfaces. The same year he wins the French- he makes it the the USO finals. His academy also focuses on more than just clay.

It is a shame that he was never really the same player after his injury and illness but it was nice to see today why he was once ranked number one.

Gonzo's serve deserted him when he needed it most. He is frustrating to watch at times, because it seems like he almost doesn't try to get into a rally on his return game, like he's ok with ending the points quick so he can get his service game going, and maybe hit a few monster forehands to get 1 service break and he's happy. He just doesn't always seem to be giving equal effort at times and loses some really bad points. That said Ferrero played and served great. Gonzo just makes me shake my head in frustration. Monfils, Tsonga and Gonzo my personal 3 best cases of WITHIGOW the immense talent that's not translating into that big win.

To further vent...nbc still showing taped tennis, and now i cant get a working live feed on espn360. i guess this is god's way of saying unglue yourself from tv and computer, go out and enjoy the sunshine.

Wimbledon is the only slam at which JCF hasn't reached at least the SF, but he does have a QF to his name.

That SF run at Queen's was no mirage.

Also, does ARod consistently have third set walkabouts? He's lost every third set he's played so far.

Wimbledon Radio is playing the Andy Murray press conference.

The inanity of the questions directed to professional tennis players is quite astonishing.

I believe Juanqui played quite a bit of hard court tennis in his youth--possibly even more than clay court tennis.

Of course, his movement translates very well to clay.

Maybe this is the year of the Oldies

Hewitt,Haas,Ferrero?

Roddick will be 27 this year

Not to metion Roger who will turn 28.

Good win for Ferrero. Even having picked Gonzo here, I can't help but be happy for JCF.
Monday should be really exciting, hoping the weather cooperates

AM, you'd love this. I'm watching a replay of Sveta-Sabine, Emmanuel Joseph, the French guy is the umpire. The commentator goes "French have a number of very good umpires, with Cedric Mourier leading the charge."
LOL.

Stan on the upcoming match:

"""
Q. You never played Andy on grass. Which of the two of you will it suit better?

STANISLAS WAWRINKA: I think he like playing on grass, but I'm not too bad on grass. So I'm very happy to play him for the first time on grass court, especially here in a Grand Slam.

Q. You're good friends, aren't you?

STANISLAS WAWRINKA: Yeah, of course we are good friend. We are practice a lot together, and last week we practiced together before the tournament.

But when you are on the match you focus on the game and you try to win the match. That's it.

Q. But you feel you know his game pretty well?

STANISLAS WAWRINKA: Yes.

Q. Does that help?

STANISLAS WAWRINKA: We'll see. It's the same for him and for me, so...

Q. What is the most difficult thing for you about playing Andy, apart from his game?

STANISLAS WAWRINKA: I think he's just playing very good, so it's always hard to win the points. He's just a very good player.

Q. What do you need to do for yourself to succeed, to beat him?

STANISLAS WAWRINKA: To be very aggressive and to have a good serve, you know. Depends of the day. But if my serve is here, I have a chance to do some good work.
"""

I didn't know he and Andy were friendly. Interesting.

AM: at our ripe old age of 25yrs....those players are definitely oldies!!

Just realized, compared to Murray, JFC has had quite a challenging three rounds: youzhny, santoro, and gonzo.......yes, I know, you can only play whoever's in front of you, blah, blah, blah....

Yes its good to see there is a least a guy from Spain still left in the draw

Vamos!

AM, do you think Nando can handle Ivo? He has a losing H2H against him 1-2, but won their last match...on grass...Nottingham '08. Hahaha. It's gonna be a freakin' nightmare, as usual. I hope he keeps his head, unlike Tsonga.

Barnes is at it again. Federer and the spirit of Henman:

http://www.timesonline.co.uk/tol/sport/tennis/article6586323.ece?openComment=true

Greenhoppe Gasps For Air

We know they are all on drugs over there anyway lol!

Thanks Pspace...it was quite funny:

"That Henmaniacal spirit breathed into him and Federer looked for his best game in the manner of a drunk trying to fit a key in a lock."

I don't know what it is with Tim's commentary, but everytime Tim says something positive, Roger goes and spoils it all...for example, Tim said that Roger has got all his serves in (1st set), then Roger immediately misses his first serve. The Tim says "Thanks Roger" sarcastically. It happened quite a few times in last years final also.

Man, I love Roddick pressers. From today's (after several other questions about which stats he considers important):

"Q. Federer is one of the worst challengers. Does that surprise you? What do you think of that?

ANDY RODDICK: I just found an irrelevant stat."

[source: http://www.wimbledon.org/en_GB/news/interviews/2009-06-27/200906271246127573609.html]

Some stuff from Andy's interview. So, I guess the consensus is Roger started playing the fool in the third set?:

"""
Q. You obviously do play up to the last ball. Is there any point at which you know you've won or lost a match?

ANDY MURRAY: If you're serving and you got, you know, three match points, especially on sort of a grass court, you feel very confident you're going to close out of match.

But when you go a couple of sets and a break up, you can think to yourself maybe you're gonna sort of try some things out. You know, but you never ‑‑ I saw a little bit of Federer's match yesterday. You know, he's two sets to love up and 4‑Love up, if you try a few things or lose your concentration or think you finished the match, the guys are so good now, you try not to let them back in. So you just try and stay as focused as possible.

Q. Do you know yet how you'll be spending tomorrow?

ANDY MURRAY: Same as every other day off. I'll come and practice around 12:00, 12:30 for an hour, hour and a half, and then see my physio, have an ice bath, and just get some food down me, recover as best as possible to get ready for Monday.

Q. You said you watched some of Roger's match yesterday. How closely do you pay attention to the others in the draw, your rivals in this kind of championship?

ANDY MURRAY: I don't follow it that closely, you know what's going on in the draw, you know, who's playing who. But you just try and focus on your own matches. If I'm watching the TV, you know, and Federer's playing or Hewitt or whoever it is, you know, I'll watch the match, like pretty much every other player in the locker room does.

But, you know, you try and stay as focused on your own game as possible.
"""

Dinara finally gets to play on Centre Court:

http://www.wimbledon.org/en_GB/scores/schedule/schedule15.html

Pspace oops forgot that the Chick Magnet was still in the draw

Well I watched Dr Ivo on grass apart from sending down 43 aces thats absurd for a start hello? remember the grass is soo slow and all that.

The Dr is lethal at the net as well.Gee he was good at the volley that day. With a wing span like that hard to beat.

Also I loved his reaction when he won the match too.Great to see.

Well I also noticed The Chick Magnet has lost his Mo Hawk? no gel well hardly anyway.Could this spell his demise from Wimby 09?

Needs to get his Mo Jo back, maybe Anna can help.Thats right she is with We Are Just Good Friends Adam Scott ok Anna and Scott whatever you say.I could get to the bottom of that saga know Scott Byrnes well.I dont like to use my contacts only when I am forced to.

Nando being a leftie could give the Dr a bit of a headache, will be interesting to see how he returns his serve.Nando will have to serve well thats for sure.

My predication the Dr will win, especially if he can keep up with the play like he did the other day.

That Roddick response is hilarious.

He can be kinda jerky on the court- but off the court funny, self-depreciating and seems to want other players to get their due. He can be a smart-ass in pressers- but it is one of those funny smart ass ways. Kinda mean- but funny.

I saw Mel Oudin play WTT -- I think it was last year -- and thought what a solid player (and not from one of big academies!!!!!), but that she may be too short to compete with the top 10 big babes of the WTA. Well, she proved otherwise today.

Although, let's face it, Jelena Jankovic ain't exactly on top of her game lately. She's fallen completely into the mire (mentioning "woman problems" for her lethargy during this loss -- not good JJ)!!! I think hot mess JJ's idea to take a break from the game is right on time -- her mistake was waiting until AFTER Wimbledon! Still, congrats to Mel!

Sveta, Sveta, Sveta... I'm not that surprised as I saw Sabine play -- I believe Hopman Cup (not sure) -- earlier this year and was impressed with her. I thought she'd do better at the FO though.

Kirsten Flipkens lost. Oh, well. AT least it was to the top ranked woman in the world. There's no shame in that kind of loss, and she gave her a 7-5 first set.

Jesse Levine -- here's a written champagne toast to the guy!

Roddick -- keep it coming. Although, I'm sticking by my man Murray to take home the trophy (I can dream can't I...), wouldn't it be nice if Andy shocked the world...

AM, yeah, I dunno. Tsonga was able to win points on Ivo's serve in the TB, but he didn't get enough first serves in and made crucial UFEs. I think Nando will hold his head better. Ugh! The very thought of more Ivo makes me cringe.

FWIW, Of the 3 oldies in the draw (Hewitt, JCF and Haas), I see JCF as the least likely to make the SF and Hewitt the most, with Haas somewhere in the middle.

JCF is 50-50 vs Simon, but there's no way he takes out Murray in the QF. Hewitt should get past Stepanek, and I like his chances against Roddick/Berdych given that Roddick's not been very impressive( so far) and Hewitt has. Haas should do well against Andreev, and always has a chance against Novak (who can be counted on to have an off day as he did at Queens F).

Meanwhile pretty bummed at Cilic's loss today. I was cheering for him just like the little blong girl in the stands :)
Also Nole's resigned to court 3 on Monday :(

Damn! Nole-Dudi on Court 3? Surprising. I'd much rather watch that match over Nando-Ivo, for example.

I know I've been whining about dinara not playing on cc, but I'm shocked about her placement on Manic Monday....even I couldn't have whined if venus/ana were chosen over her....I suppose if flavia had won today and not a former champ, placement may have been different

Nancy, "I think hot mess JJ idea to take a break from the game is right on time her mistake was waiting until after Wimbledon." I can't stop laughing. Nancy, you miss a treat this morning, she was laid out flat on the court with a blood pressure cup around her arm with two trainers working on her. She was in full drama queen mode. She claims that she thought they might need an ambulance for her "women problems." Well Ok!

Samantha Elin,
I am waiting to see whether or not the media will give Jelena a break for her comments today in her loss to Melanie. Only saw the last set of the match and Melanie just outplayed her. I know Hott Mess was sluggish but if she would have won, she would have been bragging about it. Play match = fit on court. Ready for Sabine and her risk and high reward game Monday? Sabine displayed nice touch using the drop shot effectively to go along with her lethal serve.

Master Ace: maybe the tabloids will be preoccupied with Murray...if not for that, I'm sure they would have a field day with her comments from today.

wats up Ace ....

fill me in a bit on how The Worm is playin - wud love a scoop report for Rusty;s next game

Lleytsie, Worm has a knee injury...came up during todays match:

"""
Q. We thought you were going to retire, but you managed to get on.

RADEK STEPANEK: Yeah, it didn't only look dramatic, it was dramatic, because I had the problem with my knee already in Madrid this year, before Paris, and I didn't play for nine or ten days before Roland Garros. I was able to play there. Made two rounds, you know.

After Roland Garros, I twist my ankle, two days after the match when I played a challenger tournament in Prostejov. So I started to practice already three or four days here before Wimbledon. Today at 6‑5 it was I think on the breakpoint, when I had a breakpoint, David served a double‑fault, and I was just hitting the ball back. When I hit the ball, I felt in the knee something is wrong.

But I went to the chair, came back to serve, and already the first serve, my knee didn't respond with me, just broke down. When I tried to serve at 15‑All, I couldn't even stand on the leg, so I had to stop and call the physio. It happened to me already I think twice, so I knew where the problem is.

There was only the question if they gonna tape my knee and, you know, it's gonna ‑‑ the pain's gonna go away or not. I gave myself, you know, if I'm gonna finish the set, the whole set with the pain, then I'm gonna retire. But slowly the pain was leaving. I was able to play with the tape. It was actually very uncomfortable, but, you know, I was able to play. And that was for me the most important thing. And I was trying to do most of it.
"""

Question will be how he recovers. His personal doctor is flying in from Prague as we speak ;-).

Regardless though, I think Rusty is playing superb, and he should come through.

Court three? Is that the ex graveyard of champions? Go Dudi.

Um, was Roger 4:0 up yesterday in the third? *puzzled* I'm pretty sure he didn't choke from two breaks up to lose the set. Maybe Andy would like to think so, but that's not how I remember the set.

Barnes cracked me up, the mental image of Roger going to pee to eliminate the bad spirit of Tim was hilarious (if somewhat alarming and, um, painful?). Honestly, Roger lost sets to hot players in the past. Isner? Feli? Granted, rarely does Roger lose the third set (I can't recall it, actually. Roger winning two sets and going on to lose the third. Obviously, he lost a match from two sets up to Hewitt in 2003. But a winning match? Don't know) but in all of Roger's Slam career, he only ever managed to win a Slam once without dropping a set. And Kolhi is a tough one on grass.

http://www.net5.nl/web/show/id=453856

Dutch Website which has all the Wimb 09 matches recorded. Great for catching up on missed matches!

The website also shows live matches on all courts, but unfortunately, that's only for folks living in Netherlands.

haaaa - gracias Pspace -

and then we have R-ANDY right ?

thats shud be fun as well ... this wimby has been for the old timers

Carrie and RIbbons

Roddick's pressers are gems. The Aussie presser from '07 (which they show all the time) is a classic.

My favorite is the one before his 20th meeting with Fed in Miami.

Q: How about the fact that you beat
him here last year on the same court and
everything. Does that factor in at all? Can you
remember that and bring that in, or not really?

ANDY RODDICK: I'd love to be able to sit
here and center my chi and focus all those good
vibes and do all that. At the end of the day, it's
about executing. You know, what's done is done.

if I can channel that one match, then he'll be able
to channel 15 or 17, whatever the hell it is. He's
got more channelling.

Q. Are you doing yoga or something
like that?

ANDY RODDICK: No. Are you?

Or,

Roger was 4-2 up in the third set before losing in a TB.

Patrick, of course they will give her a break. This board is a good example of that, only 3 people criticized her post match press conference. Patrick, just remember what happens when Serena fails to give her opponent credit, this board lights up and the media slaps her for it as they should. Both Safina(FO comments about Kuzzy) and JJ should have been taken to task in the same way Serena and Venus are. When I posted Safina's comment, one person criticized them. I wonder why the difference in the media and with fans????

JJ I think has finally lost the plot.

Which may I say it saddens me some what.Lets give her some credit when she was the No 1 player I know slamless she was playing good consistant tennis. With the current point system in the WTA she earned her right to be no 1 regardless.

With her new muscled body thinking that might help her game in terms of strength etc, well to me that has back fired on her big time.In fact she has lost some of her speed in doing so.She is in my mind one of the best defensive players out there.

Knowing that she is to get another coach maybe that is the one thing that could turn her game around also mentally as well.

She has always played injured. We have all seen that over the years. Also her immune system has been affected. Not a good sign for anyone let alone a elite athlete.

Today what we witnessed on court well to me she probably felt dizzy due to her blood level sugar dropped.Maybe she didnt eat enough before her match also didnt drink enough fluid.

Well hopefully she can her self back on track. At age 25 I feel now a grand slam is beyond her honestly.

Forgot to add, Patrick, if you're waiting, don't hold your breathe. I'm looking forward to that match too.

imjimmy,

I read this stat somewhere...interest to you:

Andy Murray has gone on to win the tournament the last two times he defeated Victor Troiki..

Lleytsie,
We all know that Hewitt likes a moving target and Stepanek will be one on Monday as he loves to come to net. I think Hewitt wins the match as his passing shots and lobs will be effective.

fed-fan

one of the pressers - asked him what about his emotional rhythm after the breaks last year

ROD: you sound like my therapist

i abs F-LOVE RODS Pressers

Samantha,

I did find JJ comments odd...she isn't the only woman playing out there.

Samantha, you compensate for all the criticism that JJ hasn't got from others ;-). Really, you've said it all. Not much to add, is there? She's a drama queen. Yeah.

Fighting words those from Murray. Federer was only a single break up. And Kohlschreiber had been threatening on his service games in that set. He deserved the third set, the points differential was fairly convincing in his favour despite the close scoreline, and he played outstanding tennis.

Let's see how Murray gets on against Wawrinka.

Yup. I didn't recall if he was 4:2 or 4:2 with a break. Regardless, I knew it wasn't 4 love.

Samantha-- To be fair, I think one reason this board and the media don't go all out criticizing JJ's comments at a presser is that no one really cares that much. Serena matters. She's one of the greats in history and she's just going to get a lot of attention, good or bad. Right now (and my guess is for the rest of time), Jankovic just doesn't matter much. Unless she really turns things around, she'll be a blip on the radar, one of a couple of half-forgotten names (Rios, anyone?) from a sad period in the WTA when the #1 ranking just didn't mean that much. That's why people don't go crazy over what she says.

Samantha : I'm looking forward to Lisicki vs. Wozniacki. Nice contrast in styles, and both players are interesting in their own way.

Well, Samantha, I'd like to respond to your post but I just don't have the energy to do so. I'm so tired, I can barely move my fingers to type....you really didn't say anything I cannot prove untrue but right now I'm not able to do so because I'm suffering from.....well, let's just say it's difficult being a woman...

Thanks ladyjulia. Very interesting stat.

"""
Right now (and my guess is for the rest of time), Jankovic just doesn't matter much.
"""

Ouch. Harsh prognosis. But, it doesn't look good for her. I found it rather amusing that she would describe someone as winning without weapons. It's not like she has a great deal herself. And, Oudin had 38 winners and 43 ufes...three winners in the final game serve, DTL bh, IO-fh. So, no idea what she's talking about.

imjimmy,
Thanks for that link. So for those of us who don't speak Dutch, where can we find the archived matches?

Christopher, I'm hard on JJ, but she's a former world's#1 and I think she does matter and that people do care what she has to say. I think that what she, Ana and Djoko have done for Serbia is outstanding.

VC: Despite being a Federer fan, I don't think Murray said anything that amounted to "fighting words." Responding to a question about
when do you know you've won or lost a match, he said, "I saw a little bit of Federer's match yesterday. You know, he's two sets to love up and 4‑Love up, if you try a few things or lose your concentration or think you finished the match, the guys are so good now, you try not to let them back in." It seems to me that he was simply making the point that you never know for sure, no matter how insurmountable your lead appears to be.
Posters on TW have certainly chided Federer for walkabouts where he has lost concentration (though it's usually the second set rather than the third), and I seem to recall Federer himself saying something similar when he lost a surprise set 1-6 to, of all people, Tommy Robredo at a Grand Slam a couple of years ago.

WTA R16 matches are the following:

(A-5)Dinara Safina vs (A-10)Amelie Mauresmo
(A-6)Caroline Wozniacki vs Sabine Lisicki
(A-1)Venus Williams vs (F)Ana Ivanovic
(F)Agnieszka Radwanska vs Melanie Oudin

Virginie Razzano vs Francesca Schiavone
Elena Vesnina vs (A-8)Elena Dementieva
(A-7)Victoria Azarenka vs Nadia Petrova
Daniela Hantuchova vs (A-2)Serena Williams

WTA preview Sunday...

Mr. and Mrs. D, that was hysterical, you're suffering from being a woman too. LOL, I love this board.

"" imjimmy,
Thanks for that link. So for those of us who don't speak Dutch, where can we find the archived matches? ""

** From a blog **

when you go to wimbledon2009.nl you see in the middle of your screen a square within it the question: 'wedstrijd gemist?' (match missed?)Above it stands 'uitslagen&herhalingen'(results&replays). It's the one with Federer waving. Than you get into a screen with the draw in it and next to most matches stands a video-sign. If you click it you will get to see that match in full!! (BONUS: No commentary!! I I flove seeing the match that way while hearing only the sound of the ball stricking )

Today's matches aren't on yet, but we have all matches (on all courts) until yesterday. I'm guessing today's matches will be up soon.

BTW here's the link again:

http://www.net5.nl/web/show/id=488596/langid=43

jhurwi, yeah, I'm usually on the lookout for "fighting words" and that never crossed my mind with those remarks.

There seem to be two theories for why Fed dropped that third set: (a) PEHKs good play (see Steve's post), and (b) Fed on walkabout. I have no opinion as I didn't watch it, but Murray's analysis usually matches mine...so I'll take it on faith ;-).

is there any where i can catch some highlights of the hewitt game ?

thanks imjimmy.

It surprises me how similar Dutch and English sound.

I think Oudin might be able to beat Agi, she was serving in the 65 on her first serve. Petrova has a solid 2-1 match record against Azaranka.Caro and Lisicki will be difficut. Lisicki can be erratic and inconsistent, but she has big weapons when she's on.

Master Ace: petrova didn't even make it as an Ace Floater....dark horse, maybe?

Re: Murray on Fed's match... he seemed to be conflating sets 1 and 3. In set 1, Fed was, indeed up 4-0 and then lost the next two games.

Did anyone catch this bit from Roddick's presser:

>>> Q. Tiebreaks, you've had a really great record so far this year. Obviously that came into play today. Are you feeling a little mojo when you get to that point in the match?

ANDY RODDICK: I don't know if I agree with your word usage, but that was cute (smiling).

I'm pretty sure that was a reference to Roddick's infamous first round USO loss (in 2004?) after he did a big Amex campaign about finding his "mojo." Funny.

Hi everyone! I've been trying to figure out how to access the NBC site that allows you to watch highlights and full matches ever since a wonderful poster told us about it - I'm sorry I cannot remember who it was but send her/him big thanks;)). Once I downloaded the Silverlight Technology, I gained access so wanted to share.

http://www.wimbledon.org/en_GB/interactive/video/live.html

On this page, I click on "NBCSports.com" and it brings me to the screen with the choice of Live Play, Highlights, or Full Match Replay and choice of day (from the 22nd to present day). I don't know how they decide which matches are shown.

Also, I don't get The Tennis Channel from my cable TV provider but found that their online site has some very good interviews (under the Video section).

http://www.tennis-channel.tv/tennis/

If you're aware of this already, just scroll;))!!

jan

Is it me or does Melanie Oudin sound like she has a bit of a Canadian accent? Certainly doesn't sound like she's from Georgia.

Hewitt's specialty when he was younger was defeating serve and volleyers, and that's a large part of how he became #1. Now that he's generally playing well again, I expect him to beat Stepanek for the same reason.

Hopefully Oudin can do well for US. I don't agree with anything JJ said about her game, my concern is her small stature, you find very few players at the top with her petite frame. But I could be wrong look at Justine, but she was very rare.

Hello all, back from work, where they had my very favouritest wedding cake - chocolate sponge with butter icing and white chocolate decoration.

And luckily I brought a piece home with me...I can cheer myself up after JJ's result by eating it with a cup of tea. :) Good for Oudin though, hope I get to see her play.

also happy for Murray and JCF...how did Roddick's match go, I am not caught up yet?

Mr. and Mrs. D..
No floater for Nadia as other players were playing too well at the time.

Samantha Elin,
Agree that Melanie has a winnable match on Monday as Agnieszka won't be able to overpower her but if Melanie wins, her run ends on Tuesday against Venus/Ana.

MA: will all the wta players be scheduled for Tuesday?

aw, Kuzzy. Still Lisicki-Wozniacki should be fun.

I'm bummed Venus and Federer are starting at the exact same time on Monday. We'll only see the third set of Fed's match, if we're lucky. Thank goodness for JustinTV.

Mr. and Mrs. D,
Yes, all WTA players will play Tuesday and the ATP on Wednesday for the respective quarterfinal matches.

just noticed andreev has reached the 2nd week in singles, doubles and mixed.....how about that!

thanks MA....hope none of the ladies has an overly long match (hate it when that happens before consecutive days)

Tommy Haas managed to win? Well done to him...it was a fun match yesterday.

Leystie Yes Down Under replay all the matches the next day

See what you are missing out on,also we have Live coverage

ok...think I'm all caught up. Gone midnight here, so, bedtime for me. Goodnight, everyone. :)

jhurwi : I was being slightly facetious there. Murray has been probably the most impressive player so far in the tournament, but I'm happy with the way Federer is playing as well. But it doesn't matter who's playing the better tennis right now. From what little I saw of Murray in the third set, he was toying with Lisicki.

Federer has his walkabouts, but he didn't suddenly lose it entirely against Kohl, who definitely played some great tennis in the third set. Federer's level dropped only slightly, IMO.

"From what little I saw of Murray in the third set, he was toying with Lisicki."

Murray and Lisicki, huh!? you're better than the british tabloids!:)

Jewell I dont think Tommy would see it as Fun in a 5 set match that was delayed but hey I am so happy for him

With all the injuries in his career I would love him to go further

VC,
Do you mean Troicki?

"

Sorry, I got that mixed up :-)

Troicki.

VC: much more entertaining the first way!!

"VC: much more entertaining the first way!!"

Indeed! Though Billie Jean King and Bobby Riggs might have something to say about that ;-)

Hmmm...I didn't know this about Stan:

"""
There is nothing flashy about the Swiss No.2. He is not one for extravagant spending, extravagant partying or extravagant indulgence. His only one claim to anything approaching a celebrity lifestyle is having a television commentator, who just happens to be ten years his senior, for a girlfriend.
"""

The rest of the article is pretty much the usual stuff. Stan as Plain Jane sorta thing.

With Lleyton and his s/volley game also his good returning abilites that got him to the no 1 position in a way he is playing that way now,a most important point going into the 2nd week for him he has won all his matches in straight sets.

Which fares well for any player knowing that the business end of a grand slam is where the tough get going.

Pspace, yeah, it's funny that both Stan and Fed had relationships with women older than them, in Stan's case much older.

This is his gf:

Stan seems to have done rather well in that department ;-)
