It's funny, Davydenko isn't getting any money from Prince, but they're still using a picture of him on their website so any davydenko fan browsing the prince website see's davydenko holding his prized racquet, so Prince is getting all the benefit of a sponsorship without sending Nikolay the checks. :-D

I'm sure it has something to do with the controversy a few years back. Plus prince has been doing a lot of tennis channel promos. Plus prince knows that Davy isn't very marketable. I'm sure that they could call him the "giant killer" or something.

it is the nature of the beast. well said. Who knows what davydenko was asking them to pay him and there was a controversy. I think Prince is stand-up and respect what tehy have been doing lately b/c they don't mislead by painting other brands frames... yOu know players actually really using a prince b/c the hole technology is right there in front of you. its more real credibility for their rackets.

I guess the FTC regulations will also force some tennis players who play with racket paintjobs to reconsider their contracts - according to my understanding, this is now illegal, is it not?

There is a Squash player, who is now #1 in the world, who is an ex-Prince sponsored player. He just could not switch racquets away from his trusty prince. Prince ended his contract and he went with Head, then during his head contract, started using his old prince again, with black paint. Head finally had to end his contract and he went back to his old racquet, without a prince sponsor. Same situation as Davydenko. This guy also wears Adidas shoes, but the shoes tend to peel away at the toe and so he put TAPE on the shoes to make it stay together. Imagine, your player puts tape on your shoes and uses someone else's racquet. What a guy to sponsor!

I guess decreasing wind resistence would be similar to increasing your strength, which we know is an advantage. You could impart more impulse to the shot in the same time. But couldn't you achieve something almost as good by using a racquet with a lower swing weight achieved by a head-light balance?

You can't paint a prince racquet and pretend it is a head.
